Reds vs Cubs In 2022 “Field Of Dreams”

Major League Baseball has announced that baseball will return to Field of Dreams next season, with the Reds hosting the Cubs in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday, August 11, 2022. 

“Being part of the ‘MLB at Field of Dreams‘ game in 2022 is an honor that we share with all of Reds Country,” said Phil Castellini, Reds President & Chief Operating officer. “That storied setting was brought to life so unforgettably in last week’s inaugural game, and we can’t wait to experience that excitement when we play the Cubs there next August.” 

The Reds will be the home team in Iowa and the 2022 schedule will now include 80 games at Great American Ball Park. “MLB at Field of Dreams” will also be presented for a second time by GEICO and be part of the GEICO Summer Series. Ticket information will be announced at a later date.

The Reds also announced home game times for the 2022 regular season at Great American Ball Park. Monday-Saturday nightgames will start at 6:40 p.m. 

“In recent years, we have surveyed thousands of Reds fans for their feedback on topics related to the ballpark experience, including game times,” said Aaron Eisel, Reds Vice President of Ticketing and Business Development. “Reds Country has spoken loud and clear that they are in favor of earlier start times for evening games.”

The Danville Dans scored five runs in their final at bats for a 5-2 win to earn a split of their series with the Chillicothe Paints Sunday.

Chillicothe’s Tyler Ronevich was touched for two runs in the 8th inning and Danville’s Cooper McMurray knocked a three-run homer in the top of the 9th for the winning margin.

The Paints’ Kent Reeser singled in Rylet Preece in the 3rd inning for the early lead and Jake Shier scored on an Alex Ludwick double for a 2-0 lead in the 5th.

Myc Witty worked five scoreless innings before giving way to Ronevich in the 6th inning.

The loss snapped a 4-game winning streak for the Paints.

After an off day Monday, Chillicothe heads to Johnstown for a two game set with the division leading Millrats Tuesday and Wednesday before returning to VA Memorial Stadium for one game stand with West Virginia Thursday.

The American Legion Ohio Region V Tournament will be hosted by the Paints Monday through Thursday.

In MLB action, the Indians won their series with the Athletics in Oakland while the Reds were swept by the Brewers in Cincinnati.

Milwaukee had dropped three straight to the Reds prior to the All-Star Break but rebounded for the sweep at Great American Ball Park with an 8-0 win Sunday.

The Indians doubled up the A’s 4-2 Sunday after splitting the first two games of the weekend.

Cleveland heads to Houston Monday while the Reds home stand continues with the New York Mets.

Marty Brennaman To Join Reds Hall of Fame

Ford C. Frick Award Winner Marty Brennaman is the sole member of the Reds Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021 with induction ceremonies Friday August 27th at Great American Ball Park. The event will include the on-field Induction Ceremony and a special Reds Alumni Softball Game featuring more than 40 Reds Hall of Famers and former Reds. 

“We can’t think of a better way to honor Marty Brennaman than with one of the largest gatherings of Reds Hall of Famers and alumni from his 46-year broadcasting career,” said Rick Walls, Reds Hall of Fame executive director.

“Moving the Induction events to Great American Ball Park allows fans and former players to celebrate Marty as our newest Hall of Fame inductee.” 

Brennaman joins his former broadcast partner Joe Nuxhall, who was inducted in to the Reds Hall of Fame in 1968. Nuxhall’s broadcast microphone was retired in 2007.

Reds & Indians 60 Game Schedule Released

Major League Baseball released the 60 game schedules for teams for the modified 2020 season.

Ohio’s two clubs will face each other the first week of August, first in Cincinnati August 3rd and 4th then the two travel to Cleveland on August 5th and 6th for their annual four game interleague set.

The Reds open with the Detroit Tigers July 24th at Great American Ball Park for the first of a home stand which includes four games with the Chicago Cubs.

The Indians will open at Progressive Field with the Kansas City Royals July 24th followed by four games with the Chicago White Sox.

The MLB season was put in jeopardy by the coronavirus pandemic. Last week, following weeks of negotiations between ownership and the players union, the two agreed on the shortened schedule.

The regular season runs through September 27th.
