Fairfield County Health Dept. Seeks Medical Reserve Corp Volunteers

Presented By Classic Brands

(Lancaster) – The Fairfield County Department of Health is searching for volunteers for the Fairfield County Medical Reserve Corps. Medical and non-medical professionals are both in need.

Medical Reserve Corp

The MRC is a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. It is sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response in the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Why the MRC is Needed?
The need for the MRC became apparent after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when medical and public health professionals, eager to volunteer in support of emergency relief activities, found that there was no organized approach to channel their efforts. As a result, the MRC was established to provide a way to recruit, train, and activate medical and public health professionals and other volunteers to respond to community health needs during disasters and other public health emergencies.

The satisfaction of giving back. The urge to take action in your community. The desire to make a difference when you are needed most. The feeling you had, as you watched the scenes of Hurricane Katrina on TV, that you wanted to do something. The MRC will help you be right where you need to be during a disaster situation, applying your skills where they are needed most. We strive to support capable, prepared, and knowledgeable volunteers to ensure that the citizens of Fairfield County remain as healthy as possible in the face of a disaster.

Fairfield County MRC Mission:

To engage, recruit, and maintain medical and non-medical volunteers in Fairfield County to strengthen emergency response and community resilience while protecting public health.

Fairfield County MRC Vision:

The FCMRC will encourage volunteers to use their professional expertise to improve the public health of their communities on an ongoing basis. During times of crisis and non-crisis, volunteers will supplement the existing public health infrastructure to improve overall preparedness and to promote healthy behaviors, prevention of disease, and provision of care in the community.

Fairfield County MRC Core Values:

  • Community: Honor the community-based nature of the MRC and recognize its spirit of volunteerism.
  • Action: Seek opportunities to develop meaningful initiatives that support community medical and public health volunteerism and service.
  • Resourcefulness: Maximize the potential to learn, and leverage relationships and assets to the fullest extent.
  • Teamwork: Embrace collaboration and work collectively to achieve the mission.
