Chillicothe Claims FAC Boys Tennis Championship

The Chillicothe Cavaliers laid claim to the Frontier Athletic Conference Boys Tennis Championship Friday with a 3-2 win over Miami Trace.

The Cavs conclude FAC play with a league record of (7-1).

Chillicothe’s Kaiden Koch defeated Jonah Goddard 6-0, 6-0

Chillicothe’s Colin Halm defeated Jacob Pettit 6-3, 4-6, 6-1

Chillicothe’s JB Maravilla defeated Kaiden Howard 6-4, 6-1

Miami Trace’ Cline/Bainter defeated CHS Allison Remley/Kayla Penn 4-6,1-6

Miami Trace’ Bennett/Cline defeated CHS Noah Phillips/Kendall Harrod 0-6,0-6

Bloom Carroll Boys/Fairfield Union Girls Are MSL Buckeye Track & Field Champs

The Mid State League Buckeye Track & Field championships went to Bloom Carroll Boys and Fairfield Union Girls, Friday at Teays Valley High School.

Bloom Carroll won with 124.5 points, with Liberty Union runner-up with 118.

The Lady Falcons of Fairfield Union scored 151 points for the team title, with Teays Valley second with 140 points. Circleville was third at 118.5 points.

Masonic Lodge Announces Scholarship Winners

(Chillicothe) – The local Masonic Lodge, Scioto #6, Free & Accepted Masons, is awarding four $1,000 scholarships to top scholars in the 2022 graduating classes at local high schools.

Two of the winners are from Chillicothe High School, Brady Wood, who will attend Capital University and Eric Patrick Friend, who plans to attend Otterbein University. 

A third recipient is Carley Smith, Paint Valley High School, who will attend Miami of Ohio.

A fourth scholarship, for a student planning to study art, went to Emily Faith Howie of the  Ross County Christian Academy, who is headed for Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The art scholarship was sponsored by James Fritz Schafer, a past master and member of Scioto Lodge #6, in honor of his late wife, Victoria Schafer, who was a noted local artist and photographer.

Scioto Lodge plans to award the scholarships and honor other top scholars from area schools with a Scholars Banquet, Monday, May 16th at the Masonic Temple, 57 East Main Street, Chillicothe.

The lodge’s annual scholarship program is funded partially by its annual fish and tenderloin fry which is scheduled this year for Friday, June 3, at the Lions Club Shelter in Yoctangee Park.

Open Door Church To Host New Kinder Kids Academy

Open Door Church, located on Chillicothe’s south-side, will be opening a new day care for young children.

Dawn May is the administrator for Kinder Kids Academy, which is planning for a June 6th beginning at the Open Door Church campus at 3130 South Bridge Street, Chillicothe.

The Academy will be a year-around kids daycare facility, which May says will be able to accept up to approximately 100 children- age infant through school age.

School hours will run between 7am-6pm Monday through Friday, and will include a curriculum, language courses, along with various activities, camps, bible stories, prayers and praise songs.
