Article Presented By Hanes Healthcare Center…

The Bulldogs of Bloom Carroll scored twice in each of the first three quarters while holding Chillicothe scoreless in a 38-0 opening night win to start the 2024 high school football season.

BC’s Beau Sherman had enough plays to make a highlight video of his own, returning punts of 48 and 74 yards for touchdowns, and stopping a Cavs potential scoring drive with an interception at the goal line at the end of the first half to earn the Litter Media Radio McDonald’s Player of the Game.

Bloom Carroll got the scoring started with a 37 yard field goal from Treyton McKee at 6:24 of the first quarter for a 3-0 lead. Beau Sherman’s punt return TD of 48 yards with 2:06 in the first quarter upped the lead to 10-0.

The Bulldogs increased their advantage to 17-0 with 10:21 in the second quarter on a 48 yard scoring strike from Ethan Thanthanavong to Evan Cardenas. Less than three minutes later, BC’s Beau Sherman returned a punt from 74 yards for a 24-0 halftime lead.

A scoring strike of 73 yards on the first play of the second half activated the continuous clock for the rest of the contest.

The first play from scrimmage in the third quarter was Thanthanavong’s 73 yard TD pass to Rusty Hutchinson which activated the non-stop clock at 31-0. The Bulldogs final score was with :45 left in the third period with Thanthanvong firing a 23 yard scoring strike to Kelton Kirkpatrick for the 38-0 final score.

Bloom Carroll had 244 total yards with Ethan Thanthanavong connecting on 13/18 passing for 209 yards and three TDs. Chillicothe’s defense contained the BC running game, holding them to only 35 yards rushing.

Chillicothe’s Andrew Hamman threw for 13/24 for 125 yards, but had several passes that were dropped by receivers. Running back Shawn Smith rushed 20 times for 60 yards.

The Cavs committed two turnovers while Bloom Carroll had one.
