Girls Scout Tree Promise to Include Two Area Parks

Article Presented By Rathkamp Financial…

(Columbus) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources invites Girl Scouts to give back to the environment and contribute to the Girl Scout Tree Promise. ODNR is partnering with Ohio’s Girl Scout councils including Black Diamond, North East Ohio, Ohio’s Heartland and Western Ohio to host tree plantings throughout March and April.

This will include tree plantings at Fickardt Farm Preserve in Circleville and Shawnee State Campgrounds in Scioto County.

“Planting trees is a vital component to the conservation work we do in the state, from revitalizing abandoned mine lands to creating more wetlands for H2Ohio,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said. “We enjoy working with Girl Scouts as they learn how to become future leaders in environmental stewardship.”

The Girl Scout Tree Promise, launched by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) in April 2021, is a national protection initiative to plant 5 million trees across the country over five years, and to protect and honor new and existing trees.

ODNR has committed to providing resources for Girl Scouts to plant 250,000 trees in Ohio by 2026. In 2023, the department worked with the Girl Scouts to plant more than 53,000 trees towards this goal.
