Hocking Hills Festivals Feature Fall Colors

Article Presented By Classic Brands…

(Columbus) – Annual Fall Color festivities will be offered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) at the historic Hocking State Forest Cabin and at Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve the weekend of October 26th. Both events are family-friendly and offer a variety of autumn fun including beautiful fall colors.

“Time spent in Ohio’s state forests and nature preserves at any time of the year is time well spent,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “During the fall season, these unique locations bring exceptional experiences as the beauty of Ohio’s natural features shines through.”

Hocking State Forest Fall Color Tour – Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This annual event features wagon rides through the forest, educational displays and presentations, firewood processing and chainsaw safety demonstrations, wildfire fighting equipment, and refreshments. Professional foresters will provide tips on tree identification, best practices for forest and wildlife management, tree trivia, and much more. Visitors interested in hiking can access a shortcut to the Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve Rim Trail from the historic Hocking State Forest Cabin.

The Hocking State Forest Fall Color Tour includes wagon rides throughout the forest.

Tours begin at the historic cabin, located across the road from the Hocking State Forest headquarters at 19275 State Route 374 in Rockbridge, Ohio 43149. Parking is available at the forest headquarters. All activities are located within walking distance from the parking area.

Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve Fall Open House – Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days
This beloved Hocking Hills preserve offers stunning vistas of fall color across the surrounding hills from the 2.5-mile loop Rim Trail and a close-up view of the rugged beauty of sandstone outcrops on the 1-mile paved Lower Gorge Trail. Naturalists will be stationed along both trails to answer questions about the preserve’s geology, natural history, plants, and animals. The event also features educational exhibits and, depending on weather conditions, local historical reenactors demonstrating Ohio frontier life in the 1790s. On Saturday, visitors can access a shortcut from the Rim Trail to participate in the Hocking State Forest Fall Color Tour activities.
