Playground Coming To Strouds Run State Park

Article Presented By Classic Brands…

(Athens) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has announced the construction of a new inclusive playground at Strouds Run State Park. This addition, supported by a generous, anonymous donation to the Ohio State Parks Foundation, marks a significant step forward in making the park more accessible and enjoyable for visitors of all abilities.

Located at the north edge of the beach, the new playground will feature a variety of inclusive components, such as sensory equipment and accessible swings. This project is part of a broader initiative to enhance the park’s facilities while preserving its natural beauty.

“We’re incredibly proud to introduce this inclusive playground at Strouds Run State Park,” said Glen Cobb, Chief of the ODNR Division of Parks and Watercraft. “This project exemplifies our commitment to ensuring that all Ohioans, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the outdoors. It’s a wonderful addition that will make the park more welcoming and accessible to everyone.”

The Ohio State Parks Foundation, established in 2021, has played a key role in bringing this project to life, reflecting its dedication to enhancing Ohio’s state parks through continued investment in safe, high-quality recreational experiences.

“We are committed to ensuring our parks are accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” said former Ohio Governor Bob Taft (1999-2007), founding member and chairman of the Ohio State Parks Foundation board. “This new playground, made possible by a generous, anonymous donation, is a testament to the strong community support for Strouds Run State Park and our shared vision of inclusive outdoor spaces.”

In addition to the playground, plans are underway to construct an ADA restroom, with a groundbreaking scheduled for later this fall. This facility will further improve the park’s accessibility and convenience for all visitors.

Respecting the park’s natural beauty has been a top priority throughout this project. All construction efforts are being undertaken with great care to preserve the character and integrity of Strouds Run State Park.

“We understand and share the community’s love for Strouds Run,” added Cobb. “We’re taking every measure to ensure that the natural beauty and character of the park remain intact as we make these important enhancements.”
