(Chillicothe)- November is National Adoption Month, which has Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted criss-crossing the state to promote the attributes of adopting a child. What many Ohioans might not realize is that Jon Husted has a personal reason for his passionate stance on adoption- he was adopted by a family when he was a boy.
Lt. Governor Jon Husted was in Chillicothe to visit the Elizabeth’s Hope Pregnancy Center, where he spoke with Litter Media’s Mike Smith about his personal story, while also promoting how adoption is a blessing to the adopted child and the parents involved.
Throughout Ohio, there are many families dreaming of opening their hearts and homes to a child through adoption. But, the ever-rising costs associated with the process often place a significant financial burden on prospective parents and – in some cases – even deter them from considering adoption as a way to grow their family. In fact, it’s not uncommon for families navigating the adoption process to encounter costs ranging from $10,000 to upwards of $50,000.
While federal and state tax credits are available to make adoption expenses more manageable, so many hardworking families still need the help of a loan to cover upfront costs. To help alleviate some of these financial stressors on the front end, the Treasurer’s office offers the Family Forward program.
Family Forward is designed to help ease the financial burden that prospective parents face when adopting a child.
