CIRCLEVILLE — As work continues to implement adjustments to property taxes enacted by the state legislature, the Pickaway County Treasurer’s Office has announced the second half due date has been pushed back to August 21.

“The county has been working with its vendors to implement the changes, but it is a complex process to ensure all the credits and adjustments are applied properly,” Pickaway County Treasurer John Howley said. “This is an important step in implementing some much-needed property tax relief for property owners. While the delay is an inconvenience, it is important that the bills are correct.”

House Bill 186 was passed in November and designed to increase savings for homeowners through several modifications to the tax law, including an Inflation Cap Credit.

“The Inflation Cap Credit will bring approximately $5.3 million in tax relief to property owners in the county this year,” Pickaway County Auditor Brad Washburn said.

The Inflation Cap Credit uses various factors to determine what savings would be applied to eligible parcels and is meant to ensure taxes do not increase more than the rate of inflation. The initial credit is looking back to when property values were most recently re-evaluated. It is not a flat percentage and will have the biggest impact for those in the Logan Elm, Teays Valley, Westfall and Adena school districts.

“In determining the credit, we went back to tax year 2023, which was collected in 2024,” Washburn said. “This also provides relief for those in the Pickaway-Ross, Eastland-Fairfield and Great Oaks vocational school districts.”

Second-half property tax bills will be mailed out later this month.

If a property owner paid their taxes in full earlier this year, any overpayment resulting from House Bill 186 will be carried forward as a credit for the first-half bills in 2027.

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – ArtsaRound invites the community to experience Ink & Impressions, a unique exhibition celebrating tattoo art, creativity, and community through painting, printmaking, mixed media, illustration, tattoo art, and works influenced by tattoo culture. Created in conjunction with the inaugural Stained Pumpkin Tattoo Convention, the exhibition highlights tattooing as an art form while celebrating the creativity it inspires across a variety of artistic mediums.

The exhibition will be on display July 9 through August 1 at the ArtsaRound Gallery, located at 135 W. Main Street in Uptown Circleville.  The gala is sponsored by Manchester Hill Winery and Tait Bakes. 

An Opening Gala will be held on Thursday, July 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Guests are invited to meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and vote for their favorite artwork in the People’s Choice Award competition.

The exhibition features work by Ahneka Campbell, Chris Lockard, Jennifer Neuding, Noah Davis, Timothy Thompson Jr., Zoey Chickadee, and additional exhibiting artists. Together, they showcase a variety of artistic styles and mediums while celebrating the creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling that make tattooing a unique art form.

“ArtsaRound is all about bringing people together through the arts. As excitement builds for the inaugural Stained Pumpkin Tattoo Convention, this exhibition celebrates not only tattoo artistry but also the creativity and collaboration it inspires throughout our community. The exhibition serves as a lead-up to the inaugural Stained Pumpkin Tattoo Convention, taking place July 31–August 1 at the Pickaway Agriculture & Event Center. CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Circleville residents are one step closer ot once again having a community pool.
State and City officials announced Thursday that the Circleville Aquatic Center portion of the project will move forward, following the approval of state capital appropriations funding that includes $2 million for the aquatic center through Senate Bil 450.

The announcement was made at Barthelmas Park and included state and local leaders, State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Ashville), Mayor Michelle Blanton, members of Circleville City Council, and city staff.

The funding marks a major milestone ni the effort to restore public aquatic recreation to Circleville for the first time since the closure of the Ted Lewis Park Pool in 2015.

“For generations, the public pool was an important part of Circleville’s community life and culture,” said Mayor Michelle Blanton. “Many people in our community have fond summer memories of afternoons spent at the pool with family and friends. We are incredibly grateful for this investment from the State of Ohio, which allows us to move forward with bringing a community pool back to Circleville much sooner than we originally thought possible. The Circleville Aquatic Center will be more than a place to swim. It will be a gathering place where families can connect, children can create lasting memories, and future generations can experience the same sense of community that so many residents remember from their own childhoods.”

The state funding was included in Senate Bil 450, which was approved by the Ohio Senate on Tuesday and the Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday. The legislation now heads to Governor Mike DeWine for final approval.

“When I became House Finance Chairman, I committed immediately to bringing a public swimming pool back to Circleville and Pickaway County for the first time in decades,” Stewart said. “In my role leading the budget process, I fought hard for our community, and I am very pleased the City is committing to partnering with the state to make this project a reality.”

The overall Barthelmas Park Expansion is expected to cost approximately $15 million, with the aquatic facility itself accounting for roughly $7 million of the project. In addition to the $2 million secured through the state capital budget process, the City of Circleville plans ot contribute approximately $3.5 million toward construction costs, with the remaining funding expected to come through community partnerships, sponsorships, and fundraising efforts.

The project is expected to require approximately 18 months of engineering, design, and site preparation before construction begins, at which time, the City wil have a more clear idea of a timeline for the construction and opening.

City leaders began exploring options for a new aquatic facility several years ago after acquiring property at Barthelmas Park and evaluating opportunities to expand recreational amenities for residents. Initial concepts placed a future pool facility behind the existing sports fields, but continued planning and community conversations have helped shape the vision into a larger aquatic center designed to serve residents for decades to come.

Over the past year and a half, city officials have met with community stakeholders, including Circleville City Schools, the YMCA, local organizations, and residents, to gather feedback on recreational needs and priorities. Through a series of town hall meetings and community conversations, residents consistently expressed a desire for expanded recreational opportunities and the return of a public pool.
Once completed, the Circleville Aquatic Center wil provide opportunities for recreation, swimming instruction, youth programming, community events, and partnerships with local organizations. The facility is expected to become both a recreational destination and a community gathering space that serves residents of al ages.

Additional details regarding project design, fundraising opportunities, and construction timelines will be shared as they become available.

CIRCLEVILLE – ArtsaRound, a local non-profit supporting the arts, announces Nolan Lupfer as the winner of the 2026 Collegiate Art Scholarship. Nolan is a graduating senior at Teays Valley High School and was nominated by his teacher, Jody Hall.

This scholarship is awarded to a local student who is pursuing professional instruction in any form of art at the post-secondary level. This scholarship is competitive and open to all schools in the county.

Students could be nominated by any teacher related to the arts, including band, chorus, visual art, consumer sciences or industrial arts. In addition to a portfolio highlighting their artistic talents, applicants submitted an artist statement outlining their artistic vision, goals, passion for art and community involvement.

Nolan plans to study architecture at Kent State University. In his application, he said, “Through my experience creating and viewing visual art, I’ve learned a lot about myself and what my future holds. I’ve developed a deep passion and appreciation for art and its impact on others.”

Nolan’s artwork has won Best In Show at Teays Valley High School and placed in shows at ArtsaRound and Pumpkin Show. He plans to use his artistic abilities to serve others with artistic designs that people enjoy being in.

At Teays Valley High School, Nolan is the National Honor Society treasurer, Athletic Leadership Council vice president, and captain of the cross country and tennis teams. He is active in Student Council, jazz band, Team 23 Drug-Free Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a pep club leader.

CIRCLEVILLE, OH — ArtsaRound proudly concluded its annual Best of Pickaway County High Schools Art Show, held throughout the month of April at the ArtsaRound Gallery in downtown Circleville.

The exhibit featured artwork from students representing local high schools across Pickaway County, highlighting the creativity, skill, and unique perspectives of young artists in the community. Each participating student was invited to submit up to two pieces, creating a diverse and engaging gallery experience for visitors.

Award winners for this year’s show include Best of Show recipient Nate Ames (New Hope). Brynn McKinney (Teays Valley) and Savanna Sells (Circleville) tied for second place, while Addison Keplar (Teays Valley) and Elijah Lape (New Hope) tied for third place.

“A heartfelt thank you goes out to all of the students who participated,” said Steve Sawyer, president of ArtsaRound. “The level of creativity and talent on display each year continues to grow, and it’s exciting to see these young artists share their work with the community.”

ArtsaRound also extends its appreciation to local art teachers, schools, families, and community members who supported the show and helped make it a success.

Looking ahead, ArtsaRound continues to offer opportunities for the community to engage with the arts. Upcoming programming includes the Impasto Painting Workshop with Robert Kroeger on May 8, a full-day, hands-on experience at the gallery. In June, ArtsaRound will host its Summer Youth Art Camp, providing creative opportunities for young artists to explore and develop their skills. Later this summer, Ink & Impressions will be on display from July 9 through August 1, showcasing tattoo-inspired and contemporary artwork.

Circleville, OH — Dave Truex has dedicated his career to coaching, teaching, and supporting student-athletes in the Circleville community for over three decades. With an impressive background in multiple sports, his leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact on generations of athletes.

He spent 28 years as the head softball coach at Circleville, accumulating a remarkable 416-272 record while leading his teams to significant achievements, including a state runner-up finish in 2006, a state Final Four appearance in 2007, and regional appearances in 1998 and 2004. In addition to his success in softball, he served as the head baseball coach for 10 years, finishing with a 156-76 record. His coaching career also extended to football, where he spent three years as the head coach in Circleville and nine years as a head coach overall, compiling a 12-18 record at Circleville. His football coaching experience also includes 15 years as an assistant coach, 13 of which were at Circleville.

Beyond these roles, he spent three years as the head girls track coach at Zane Trace, one year as an assistant middle school wrestling coach, and one year as a middle school basketball head coach. His impact on athletics extended into administration, serving as the middle school athletic director from 1994 to 2010 before taking on the role of middle school and high school athletic director from 2010 to 2012. He also acted as the middle school liaison within the Mid-State League for 18 yeras.

In addition to his coaching and administrative contributions, he has been a dedicated supporter of Circleville High School athletics, serving as a ticket taker at most events for the past 11 years. His commitment to sports and education has been recognized through his induction into both the Circleville High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Capital University Athletic Hall of Fame.

With 30 years of teaching experience across various grade levels and subjects, Dave Truex has shaped the lives of countless students both in and out of the classroom. His unwavering dedication to athletics, education, and the Circleville community continues to serve as an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of working with and learning from him.

The second day of play in the Brad Morris Holiday Classic found Logan Elm and Circleville sweeping their respective matches with Teays Valley and Westfall Tuesday at Circleville High School. Here’s a recap of the action.

Girls: Logan Elm 53, Teays Valley 52 in Overtime

The opening game featured Logan Elm coming off an 80-39 victory over Westfall on Monday. The Vikings were still riding on a high from easily handing Circleville it’s first loss on the season, 51-34.

The Braves’ Kimmy Petty banked home a buzzer beating three-pointer to close out the first quarter. The shot lifted Logan Elm to a 11-10 lead. They went on to outscore Teays Valley 14-5 in and grabbed a 25-15 margin at halftime.

The Vikings rallied back to 42-40 with 3:55 left in regulation. Logan Elm appeared poised to be the victor until Kiki Ingram clamped down on a long rebound with Teays Valley’s Areyanna Karshner. Ingram was charge with a foul with 0.3 seconds on the clock. Karshner calmly sank the free throws to tie the game at 49-49, sending the game into overtime.

Petty knocked down another three for a 52-49 advantage with 2:35 remaining. Karshner pulled the Vikings back within 52-51 and Amelia Brumfield made one of two free throws to tie at 52-52 with 1:47 left. After the two exchanged scoreless possessions Ingram and Karshner tangled again, this time with 5-seconds left. Ingram hit the first shot to give the Braves all they needed for the 53-52 win.

Braves Head Coach Mike Schultz said it was a great way to cap a stretch of the schedule. “Us playing at Amanda Clearcreek on Saturday with the style of play we try to always portray, getting up and down the court and then yesterday coming out against Westfall… We’re gonna get back in the gym on Friday and Saturday. It’s time to start believing we have a good squad. It was neat to see us regroup (with 20 seconds left in OT) the look in some of the kids eyes, that was basically showing me ‘Coach, we got this. We’re ready to go.”

Logan Elm improved to 8-1 on the season and will head to Jackson Monday. Teays Valley is 7-2 and will face Centerville next Tuesday.

Boys: Logan Elm 71, Teays Valley 67

The Vikings opened the game similarly to their win over Circleville the night before, jumping out to a 9-2 lead, stretching that to a 17-9 margin through the first 8-minutes. Logan Elm’s Owen Russell dropped in a three-pointer to pull the Braves to 22-19. Teays Valley quickly climbed back on top by 13 when Lane Struckman hit a turnaround for a 34-22 margin at the half. The Braves scored four points to close the gap to 34-26 at the intermission. Then, Logan Elm’s Kelton Bennington out on a three-point clinic, hitting six 3’s, putting the Braves ahead 52-46 through three-periods. A 26-12 turnaround.

It took nearly 14-minutes, but the Vikings tracked down the Braves to climb in front 63-62 on a field goal by Brody Fields with 2:10 left in the game. Owen Russell answered with a triple putting Logan Elm ahead 65-63. Teays Valley ran out of time as the Braves earned the 71-67 final.

Logan Elm’s Nate Drospey was hoping to slow the pace on Teays Valley entering the game, but the Vikings set the tempo early forcing the Braves to respond. “That was our plan, to slow it down” Dropsey said after the game “really try to grind it out with those guys.Wen knew how skilled they are, they have a lot of fire power. It just wasn’t the game it turned into. I thought our kids did a really good job adjusting to the speed of it and knocked down some shots.”

“I was just getting’ in the zone” said Bennington after the game. “My teamsmates did a great job finding me and I was hot.That’s just good Logan Elm basketball right there and we were able to get the win.” Bennington led all scorers with 24-points.

That’s who Kelton is” said Dropsey. He’s a kid that can get it going and just absolutely strokes the three. He plays with a ton of confidence. He knows we as a staff and as a team trusts him that if he has an open look, let it go.” And he did just that.

Brady Neff was steady throughout the game to add consistency for the Braves, adding another 20-points. The Vikings were paced by Fields’ 20-points and Jayden Morrison’s 18.

Logan Elm is now 5-3 on the season and will host Chillicothe next Tuesday. Teays Valley evens its mark at 4-4 and will travel to Whitehall-Yearling next Monday.   

Girls: Circleville 69, Westfall 37

It didn’t take long for the Lady Tigers to bounce back from Monday night’s loss at Teays Valley. Circleville pushed out to a 35-20 lead at halftime and finished with a 69-37 win.

Addison Edgington led Circleville with 22-points in the post, while Brooklyn Cramer tallied 14 and Maddie Blakeman netted 11 more. Prior to suffering a leg injury last season, Cramer handled the point guard duties for Circleville. The sophomore says she’s beginning to feel like herself again. “The first few games (this season) I didn’t really fell like myself” said Cramer. “But I feel like I’m getting back into it every game.”

The Tigers got back to their style of play after being upset by Teays Valley the game before. Coach Josh Blakeman was happy to get the transition game going again, something the Vikings had limited Monday. “We got up and down the court a little bit tonight, got back on the track a little bit, but some silly turnovers and things like that, we’ve got to clean up… we got Addison going tonight, got Brooklyn – that game she gave us, she’s a huge piece for us.”

Westfall was led by Adrian Moehl’s 9-points while Kendall Moehl, Rylan Baughman and Makenzie Cook had 8-points each. Mustangs Coach Justin Hudnell said despite being a young team, they’re coming along. “They’re getting there” said Hudnell. “Like I’ve told them each time in, we have to stay focused and play very physical defense. And it’s coming along. From last night to tonight, you could tell our focus was a lot better and we were able to slow ourselves down and pace it out.”

Circleville is 7-1 and heads to Unioto on Monday. Westfall is 3-7 and gets back to action on January 2^nd at Grandview Heights.

Boys: Circleville  62, Westfall 35

In the nightcap, Circleville used a 22-2 run to post a 40-18 halftime lead to bounce back from their emotional loss to Teays Valley Monday night.

Kole Nungester scored 21-points for the Tigers while Circleville used its size inside with Ed Kirk hitting for 15, Riley Jenkins for 11 while Blain Fowler and Auri Travis combined for another 10.

Westfall was led by Bryan Craig’s 11-points.

“We knew Westfall was going to come in here and play hard” said Tigers Coach Evan Callihan “and they’re a team that can score with the basketball. They’re streaky.” The Mustangs had closed within 19-14 in the first quarter before Circleville hit its stride. “We were strugglin’ to guard them… we looked a little tired early on in that first quarter, but I thought our guys responded and we finished that quarter strong and second quarter I think was 21-4. Our guys came in focused to the shoot around today and I thought they turned the page and showed a lot of maturity tonight.” Circleville, 6-2,  is off until January 3^rd when they travel to undefeated Miami Trace. Westfall, 2-8, will also wait until 2026 to get back on the floor with Grove City Christian on the 3^rd.

(Circleville) – Pickaway County Public Health invites the community to join in Overdose Awareness Day – “Light the Way” on Thursday, August 28th, from 11am to 1pm at Ted Lewis Park in Circleville.

This uplifting and meaningful event will honor the lives lost to overdose, offer resources and hope to those in recovery, and bring the community together to reduce stigma surrounding substance use.

“Overdose Awareness Day is about more than remembering those we’ve lost-it’s about building a stronger, more compassionate community,” said Tiffany Singer, PORT Coordinator and Public Information Officer at Pickaway County Public Health. “Our theme, ‘Light the Way,’ reflects our commitment to guiding one another toward healing, understanding, and support.” The event will feature:

• Community resource tables from local agencies
• Giveaways and goody bags with harm reduction and wellness items
• Live music by DJ Dray Stewart to bring energy and connection to the event
• Free hot dogs, fruit, chips, and drinks for attendees
• Two bounce houses for kids and families to enjoy
• Opportunities for conversation, remembrance, and community support

The event is free and open to the public, and all ages are welcome. Local agencies, recovery organizations, and community partners will be on hand to provide information, support, and services.

(Circleville) – The city of Circleville will be shaking on Saturday, August 16th as Rock 4 Tots takes over Tootles Pumpkin Inn, 117 East Main Street, for a full day of music in support of local children in need.
