Vaccination Clinics Scheduled In Fayette County

Presented By McDonald’s

(Washington CH)- “The emergence of the Omicron variant is again underscoring the importance of vaccination, boosters, and preventive efforts to protect against COVID-19”, according to Fayette County Public Health.

“COVID-19 vaccines are safe, free, widely available, and highly effective at preventing severe disease. Most of the hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are unvaccinated people.”

CDC recommendations on booster doses are based on the latest data, which show that booster doses significantly increase protection from the Omicron variant, with the goal of ensuring that people have optimal protection against COVID-19 infection, severe illness, and death.

Appointments and masks are required for all Fayette County Public Health Vaccination clinics. Bring your COVID Vaccination Record if you have already received at least one dose and your health insurance card if you are getting a flu shot.

COVID & Flu Vaccinations Can Be Administered At Same Time

Presented By Rathkamp Financial

While this isn’t new information, there are still some people that are confused as to whether they can receive a COVID Vaccination at the same time they get an Influenza (flu) Vaccination.

To clarify, the Centers For Disease Control and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidance states COVID-19 vaccines can be given during the same visit with other vaccines, including flu vaccine, if the recipient is eligible for the vaccines.

Considerations for Coadministration of COVID-19 Vaccines and Other Vaccines
While there is limited data on giving COVID-19 vaccines with other vaccines, including flu vaccines, experience with giving other vaccines together has shown the way our bodies develop protection and possible side effects are generally similar when vaccines are given alone or with other vaccines.

Consider:

  • Whether the patient is behind or at risk of becoming behind on recommended vaccines.
  • Their risk of vaccine-preventable disease (e.g., during an outbreak or occupational exposures).
  • The reactogenicity profile of the vaccines (It is unknown whether reactogenicity of COVID-19 vaccine is increased with coadministration, including with other vaccines known to be more reactogenic, such as adjuvanted vaccines or live vaccines).

COVID-19 vaccine has been associated with enhanced local/injection site reactions l (e.g., pain, swelling, redness). If possible, administer COVID-19 vaccine and other reactogenic vaccines (e.g., MenB, Tdap) in different limbs. Clinical information and materials on COVID-19 vaccine products can be found here.

Flu Shots At OU Campuses

Presented By Atomic Speedway

(Athens) — Flu season is back, and students are encouraged to get their flu vaccines. Students in Athens can visit OhioHealth Campus Care or various locations throughout the community, and students on regional campuses are encouraged to reach out to local providers in their area.

Influenza can cause a severe respiratory illness and is contagious. It causes time loss from school and work, and can lead to hospitalization and in some cases, death. The annual flu vaccine is recommended for all individuals ages 6 months and older.

“This year – even more than ever – it’s important,” said Dr. Jane Balbo, a family physician in the Primary Care Clinic of OhioHealth Campus Care located in the Ohio University Athens Student Health Center. “Influenza can cause life-threatening symptoms. It’s not as common but it can. Right now our health care systems are stressed by people who are ill with COVID and the more people who have flu vaccines the more likely we are to not have people becoming very ill with influenza, which means we’re less likely to have those people present for medical treatment in our emergency rooms, urgent cares and hospitals – which are quite overrun right now.”

COVID-19 and flu are caused by different viruses, which is why the COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine are different. The flu vaccine does not impact COVID-19 vaccination or immunity status, and vice-versa. You can get these vaccines within a close timeframe, even concurrently, if necessary.

Flu vaccines can generate a response with mild, short-lived symptoms as your body builds immunity. It is not possible to contract infection through a flu vaccine injection. The flu vaccine is approved, authorized, and has undergone rigorous evaluation and testing before release through various stages of CDC/FDA review.

“Having a flu vaccine doesn’t make a person sick. They might feel a little crummy as their immune system is getting revved up, and that will protect them from getting very ill with influenza a lot of the time. It won’t necessarily prevent them from getting influenza but it will reduce the chances that they’ll get very sick with influenza or that they’ll be able to transmit it to others,” Balbo said.

Students on the Athens campus can make an appointment to visit OhioHealth Campus Care at Ohio University, located near the Campus Green on 2 Church Street, to receive their flu vaccine. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and appointments can be made by calling 740-592-7100 or 740-592-7176. The cost of the vaccine is billed to the student’s health insurance, and students are encouraged to check their plan to be sure OhioHealth is an in-network provider before scheduling an appointment.

Students at the Ohio University Chillicothe Campus can get their vaccines at the Bennett Hall Art Gallery on Oct 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pre-registration is not required to receive the vaccine at the Chillicothe Campus.

Vaccines are also available in the Athens community at local pharmacies and the Athens City County Health Department. Students should not go to the emergency room for their flu vaccine.

Adena to Host Curbside Flu Shot Event November 7th

Presented by Hometown-Motors, Inc.

Adena Health Center – Woodlands, 311 Caldwell Street in Chillicothe, will be holding a second curbside flu shot event Saturday November 7th from 10am-2pm.

“We were beyond impressed with the community’s responsiveness to our first curbside flu shot event and feel as if it only makes sense for us to do it again,” said Hanna Brown, Service Line Director of Primary Care.

“This was the first time we’ve offered this service to the public, without requiring an appointment or be an established patient at Adena, and the positive feedback and appreciation the community expressed as a result of the event was phenomenal” Brown added.  “Our caregivers provided nearly 300 flu vaccinations in about four hours, without having to ask anyone to step out of their vehicle. The best part was the fact that kids were able to remain in their car seats, which made it much quicker and easier for parents. It is incredibly important for members of our community to understand the importance of the annual flu vaccine and how it not only decreases their own chances of virus contraction, but for their family as well.”

An appointment for the curbside flu shot event is not necessary. Adults and children can both receive their flu shot during the event. Officials say for children over six months and adults, the flu shot can prevent them from getting sick, prevent flu-related hospitalizations and potentially lessen symptoms or length of illness should they get a strain of the flu. Please have your insurance card and an ID ready upon arrival. Most insurance companies will cover the cost of a yearly flu shot. There is a cost $19.99 for those uninsured. Due to enhanced safety precautions, only credit cards will be accepted during the event. No cash.

Adena Now Offering Flu Shot Clinics

Presented by Hometown-Motors, Inc.

CHILLICOTHE, OH (Oct. 13, 2020) – Avoiding the flu this season takes one simple step, getting an influenza vaccine. Adena Health System offers many flu shot clinics, making it easy for you and your family to get vaccinated.

Adena is offering flu shots at all of its Urgent Care and Walk-In locations across its nine county service region. Flu vaccinations are also offered by appointment at any of Adena’s Family Medicine, Primary Care and Pediatric locations.

“This year, due to the impact of COVID-19, it’s more important than ever for the public to get their flu shot,” said Kirk Tucker, MD, Adena Chief Clinical Officer. “We recommend getting your flu shot as soon as possible in order to prevent strains of the flu which could leave people more susceptible to additional Coronavirus infection and serious illness. A flu shot not only protects the individual, but it protects others by limiting the chances of flu virus contraction and spread. Especially in light of the pandemic if a person were to get the flu and then contract Coronavirus, the combination could be potentially fatal. By pulling together, we can beat this cold and flu season.”

For children over six months and adults, the flu shot can prevent them from getting sick, prevent flu-related hospitalizations and potentially lessen symptoms or length of illness should they get a strain of the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone six months of age and older, including the elderly and pregnant women, receive an annual flu shot. Flu shots taken by pregnant women can protect their babies from the flu after birth. Most insurance companies cover the cost of a flu shot, but patients may want to check with their insurance provider if they are unsure.

Together, we can protect ourselves and each other against the flu by getting a flu shot today. To schedule a flu shot with Adena, call (740) 779-7500, or skip the wait and reserve your appointment time online at one of Adena’s Urgent Care or Walk-In Clinics. To learn more, visit Adena.org/FluShots.
