$25,000 Grant To Support Chillicothe Tree Commission

Article Presented By Accurate Heating, Cooling & Plumbing…

(Chillicothe) – Mayor Luke Feeney has announced that the City of Chillicothe has been awarded a $25,000 “Canopy Restoration” grant through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry. Funds will be used to preserve and expand our existing tree canopy in city parks and neighborhoods.

“Our Chillicothe Tree Commission members work very hard to protect and grow our tree canopy, when we saw this grant opportunity, we knew it would be a great way to show our appreciation for the work that they do while furthering my administration’s vision of a greener community. The impact of this grant will range from community beautification programs and neighborhood ward plantings to City park green space enhancements, said Mayor Feeney. I couldn’t be happier to support the Tree Commission’s great work and to share the wonderful news.”

The ODNR, Division of Forestry grant seeks to support canopy restoration by addressing challenges in neighborhoods that have limited tree coverage. The Canopy Restoration grant is a 1:1 match, meaning $25,000 will be reimbursed after the City of Chillicothe devotes $50,000. The City’s portion of the agreement will include the typical $15,000 annual tree commission budget, and in-kind contributions from our laborer’s, administrative staff, and Tree Commission Members.
