Search Begins For New Ross County Health Commissioner

The Ross County Health District is seeking candidates for their Health Commissioner position, following the resignation of Garrett Guillozet. He reportedly will be leaving for a new post closer to his central Ohio home later this year.

The Ross County Board of Health is seeking a Health Commissioner to lead its growing city-county Health District in southern Ohio. The Health Commissioner serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Health District and Secretary of a seven-member Board of Health. Innovates improvement for programs, policies, funding, staffing, and compensation to carry out agency mission working within Board of Health governance, state health department guidance and the Ohio Revised Code. 

Ross County Health District (RCHD) is proud to serve a population of over 78,000 residents of Ross County. RCHD is nationally accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board and works to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Ross County. RCHD consists of six divisions: Public Health Nursing, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, and Quality Improvement, WIC, Children and Family Health, and Administration. 

The RCHD Health Commissioner leads and manages the activities of the Health District consisting of 50 staff members and a four million budget. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; leading strategic efforts and collaborating with community partners in health assessment processes; educating policymakers about funding and policy changes needed to address current and emerging public health concerns; leading agency efforts to achieve and maintain local health department accreditation; serving as primary media spokesperson on major public health issues, consulting frequently with local elected officials, and organizing community collaborative efforts to address the community’s health. 

Requirements include: Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree in Public Health or a health-related field from an accredited academic program as approved by the Board of Health or be a licensed physician, licensed dentist, licensed veterinarian, licensed podiatrist, or licensed chiropractor per ORC 3709.11. Eight years’ experience in public health with four years in relevant leadership and administrative responsibility to include fiscal management is preferred. 

Candidate will possess effective communication skills, proven success in policy development and business goal implementation, human resource management expertise, and a comprehensive knowledge of public health, including environmental, health education, population health, community service delivery, and health promotion programs.
