Two weeks before the 2023 running of The Buck Fifty, organizers revealed the medals in a gathering Thursday evening.
Participants traditionally receive medals presented by local students of the Drug Free Clubs of America consisting of more than twenty high schools from Jackson, Hocking, Pickaway, Pike, Ross and Vinton Counties known as the M.A.D.E. Program.
“There wasn’t a seat available, so the Pour House was packed” said Dave Huggins. “No one had ever seen anything like it before so they are pumped to actually earn one in two weeks.”
Huggins says 87 race teams from 24 states are scheduled to participate in the 150 mile relay race through the hills, trails, parks and roadways of Ross County April 21-22.
The uniqueness of the ’23 medal has an etching of Leg 18 of the course in Tar Hollow State Park produced by Buckeye Designs and Engraving. “Everyone loved that we have a locally made race medal” said Huggins.
