(Huntington Twp) – Huntington Township Fire Department has been awarded a $227,380.95 FEMA grant for new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and extrication devices, also known as Jaws of Life. The SCBA need to be replaced every 20 years, and the equipment the fire department has is over 20 years old, which was handed down from another department.
The current hydraulic rescue tools were purchased by the department in 1991, and will be replaced by new battery powered technology.
Huntington Fire Chief T.J. Oyer says ”This grant comes from several sources working together to replace outdated equipment that is desperately needed and will ease the burden of our taxpayers. It was a collaborative effort between the Fire Department, the Huntington Township board of Trustees,Ohio First Responders Grants LLC, and FEMA.”
Trustee John Cottrill says “This is a shot in the arm for our department. This equipment will be put to good use in saving lives for many years to come.”
