Chillicothe Post 757 Forces Deciding Game Before Yeager-Benson Claims Region 5 Legion Title

Article Presented By McDonald’s…

Yeager-Benson Post 199 has repeated as Region 5 American Legion 18U Baseball Champs with a 14-5 win over the Chillicothe Post 757 Colts in the winner-take-all final at V.A. Memorial Stadium, Wednesday afternoon.

The Colts staved-off elimination earlier in the day with a 9-2 win over Yeager-Benson, forcing the finale. Chillicothe needed to beat Post 199 twice, in order to take the title, since they came out of the Loser’s Bracket.

In Wednesdays Game #1 contest, Chillicothe broke open a close game with five runs in the fifth inning.

Maverick Frump led things off on the mound for Chillicothe, surrendering six hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking two.

Game #2’s Championship game was close early, with Chillicothe holding a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom of the third inning. That’s when Yeager-Benson blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of that inning, then added two in the fourth, and three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

The line score showed Yeager-Benson Post 199 with 14 runs on 14 hits, despite committing 4 fielding errors. Chillicothe Post 757 had 5 runs on 7 hits and 1 error.

Yeager Benson returns to the Ohio American Legion State Tournament in Lancaster, next week.
