Gems Take 18-12 Game #1 Over Paints in Prospect League Series Slugfest

Article Presented By Classic Brands…

Quincy scored in all but one inning, including eight runs in the bottom of the first, while playing add-on in their 18-12 victory over Chillicothe in the opener of the Prospect League Championship Series Thursday night.

Game #2 moves to Chillicothe V.A. Memorial Stadium at 7:05pm Saturday in a most-win for the Paints, if they want to send the Series to a Sunday night finale in the best-of-three championship.

Chillicothe grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Gems made the scoreboard hit tilt with eight runs in the home half of that frame.

Every time the Paints cut into the deficit, the Gems played add-on. Chillicothe got to within 10-8 and later 14-12, but never could get any closer.

Quincy scored 8 in the first, 2 in the second, 3 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth, 2 in the sixth, then 1 run in each of the seventh and eighth innings. Chillicothe scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 3 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 4 in the seventh. The Paints actually out-hit the Gems 15-13 for the game, with both teams committing 2 fielding errors.

Starter Luke Walter took the loss for Chillicothe, giving up 8 runs on only 4 hits in 1/3 of an inning- walking 3. Tanner Gerdes was credited with the pitching victory for the Gems, working 2 innings- while holding the Paints scoreless and hitless.

Chillicothe’s Tim Orr drove-in 5 runs on 2 hits to lead the Paints offense, while the Gems’ Otto Jones drove in 6 runs on 3 hits.
