The defending Prospect League Champion Chillicothe Paints saw their hopes of a three-peat end in the 2024 Eastern Conference title game Saturday in a 4-2 loss to The Rex at V.A Memorial Stadium.
The Rex provided all the offense they needed with a two run first inning, before adding two more runs in the top of the third inning for a 4-0 lead.
Chillicothe picked up one run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Ty Hatfield RBI sacrifice fly to score Eric Polanco, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The Paints mounted a major threat in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring one run when Cameron Bowen clubbed an RBI double to left, scoring Alex Monile for a 4-2 score. But that is all the Paints could muster in their comeback try as they stranded runners at second and third on a game ending fly ball to end the game as The Rex claimed the Eastern Conference Championship with a 4-2 victory.
The Paints concluded their season with a (37-21) record and a Northeast Division Championship. The Rex improve to (34-23) and advance to the Prospect League Championship for the third time in club history, playing either Thrillville or Illinois Valley.
