Eastern Eagles Fly Past Huntington for (2-0) Season Start

The Eastern Pike Eagles scored on their first five possessions as they rolled to a 34-7 win at Huntington Friday at the Myrle Shoemaker Athletic Complex to improve their 2024 record to (2-0). The Huntsmen dropped to (1-1).
Huntington was plagued by turnovers and penalties, fumbling four times and being flagged 11 times for 115 yards, compared to no turnovers and 25 yards on four flags against the Eagles.
Eastern got the scoring started with a 9 play/70 yard drive finished off by Jack Montgomery’s 1 yard TD run at 8:39 of the opening quarter. The PAT kick from Brady Moore made it 7-0.
The Eagles capitalized on a bad punt snap by Huntington on their next possession at 6:28 for a two-point safety and a 9-0 lead. Eastern took the subsequent possession 50 yards in 3 plays, scoring on a Eric Manley 27 yard toss to Tucker Leist at 5:11 of the first quarter. The two-point PAT failed, leaving a 15-0 Eagles advantage.
Huntington fumbled on their next possession, leaving Eastern with a short field, which they took only 4 plays to cover 21 yards as Manley hit Wyatt Richardson on a 15 yard TD strike for a 21-0 lead, as the PAT failed. That lead went up to 27-0 as Eastern again recovered a Huntsmen fumble, then drove 62 yards in 5 plays when Moore scampered 13 yards for a touchdown at 11:12 of the second period.
The Eagles final score came at 3:20 of the second quarter when Eric Manley found Wyatt Richardson for a 7 yard scoring pass to cap an 81 yard/8 play drive. The PAT made it 34-0 at halftime.
The continuous clock ran most of the second half before Huntington got on the scoreboard with a 66 yard TD run from Gordan Cyrus at 2:23 remaining in the contest. The PAT kick from Troy McDonald closed the scoring at 34-7.
Eastern racked up 273 total yards with 6’6 quarterback Eric Manley Junior throwing 9/16 for 137 yards and three touchdowns. Manley was named the Litter Media “McDonald’s Player of the Game.”
Jack Montgomery rushed 97 yards on 15 carries, scoring one TD as the Eagles ran for 136 yards.
Huntington had 217 total yards with quarterback Frankie Hirsch throwing 10/15 for 102 yards. The Huntsmen rushed for 119 yards.
