Miami Trace Grabs Top Spot In FAC Volleyball With Sweep of Hillsboro

The Miami Trace Panthers were solid in every aspect of their play Thursday in a (25-12, 25-14, 25-11) win over Hillsboro in a battle of unbeatens, with the winner gaining sole possession of the FAC Volleyball lead.
Each of the three Sets in the match saw the Panthers break away with long scoring runs and were never in jeopardy after that.
In Set #1, with Miami Trace up 6-3, the Panthers outscored Hillsboro 13-6 on their way to a 25-12 decision.
Set #2 saw their break come after Hillsboro cut the deficit to 6-5, with the Panthers going on a 12-5 run. That ended with a 25-14 win.
Again in Set #3, Hillsboro was within 7-5 of Miami Trace, before the Panthers 9-2 run gave them the momentum to close the match with a 25-11 victory and the sweep.
6’0 senior Addyson Butts blasted 23 kills to lead Miami Trace, with Lauren Farrens adding 14 kills and 13 digs. Lauren Guess added 4 kills, Cecilia Robinson 3, and Kylie Yeazel with 2. Sydney Carter led the Panthers defense with 14 digs, (Farren 13), Robinson 12, and Allison Carter with 11 digs. Miami Trace served 7 serving aces in the match, with Yeazel and Farrens each with 2.
Kylie Yeazel was smooth in her setters position, getting the ball to the hot hands at the net. The sophomore recently surpassed the 1,000 career assist mark.
Hillsboro’s offense was spurred on by Tylee Davis’ 6 kills, Samantha Tipton with 4, Ryan Wagoner and Camryn Spruell each with 3 kills. Tipton also had 2 blocks.
Miami Trace now stands at (4-0/10-0) and Hillsboro drops to (3-1/8-1) with one more match to play in the FAC first round.
