Miami Trace, Adena & Bloom Carroll Remain Unbeaten in Conference Volleyball

Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…

Volleyball leaders in the FAC, SVC and MSL Buckeye remain unbeaten after Tuesday wins. Miami Trace ran their FAC record to (7-0) with a 3-1 win at Chillicothe, Adena swept Unioto 3-0 for a (9-0) SVC record, and Bloom Carroll swept Circleville 3-0 to (8-0) in the MSL.

Miami Trace 3, Chillicothe 1 (25-14, 25-11, 19-25, 25-21)
The Panthers completed their season sweep over Chillicothe to extend their FAC lead to two matches over Hillsboro and three over Chillicothe, with three conference matches to play. Hillsboro beat Washington (25-23, 25-21, 15-11).

Miami Trace stormed out of the gates in Set 1 at 7-2 and built that to 20-7, before cruising to a 25-14 opening win. Another strong start in Set 2 at 6-0, then 21-9, ended with a 25-11 win and a (2-0) match lead. Chillicothe battled back, darting out of the gate in Set 3 for leads of 6-2 and 9-6. The Panthers fought back for leads of 12-10 and 15-14, before Chillicothe rallied for a 25-19 win to stay alive at (2-1). Set 4 stayed tight until 9-9, when Chillicothe’s Grace Townsend went on a 9-0 serving run for a 18-12 Cavs advantage. But that’s when Miami Trace caught fire with the hitting of Addyson Butts as they closed on a 13-3 run for the 25-21 match win.

Miami Trace was led on offense by Addyson Butts’ 23 kills. Lauren Farrens and Lauren Guess each had 8 kills. Allison Carter served 3 aces and had 12 digs. Two career milestones were hit in the match as Miami Trace senior hitter Addyson Butts collected her 1,000th career kill, and later Chillicothe sophomore Evelyn Hamman hammered her 500th career kill. Hamman had 20 kills in the match. On Monday night, Chillicothe senior setter Grace Townsend collected her 2,000th career assist.

Adena 3, Unioto 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-13)
The Warriors ran their record to (9-0/13-3), sweeping arch-rival (5-4/11-6) Unioto. Adena needed five sets to beat the Tanks in their first meeting this season.

The Warriors grabbed early Set 1 leads of 6-2, 14-5, 17-8 and 23-12, then closed with a 25-14 victory. Set 2 had Unioto with an early 10-7 lead, only to see Adena tear-off a 12-2 run for a 19-12 margin, on their way to the 25-17 win and a (2-0) match lead. Set 3 was all Adena with a 12-3 start and went on to the sweep at 25-13.

Officially, Adena’s Katie Burns blasted 22 kills with 6 blocks. Burns had 35 kills in the Warriors’ five set-thriller at Southeastern last Thursday. Corinne Day added 15 kills and 2 blocks, Jacey Smith 3 and Jacey Jones 2 kills and 3 blocks. Layla Halm and Caroline Glandon each had one kill. Kortney Sowers fired 6 serving aces and Jacey Smith 3 aces. Kamryn Sowers had 17 digs, Kimmy Dalton 16, and Jacey Smith 15 digs.

Unioto was led by Kyra Stulley’s 7 kills, Jade Stewart 6, and Zoie Dettwiller added 5 kills. Alyssa Stanley had 19 assists, and Alexa West led the defense with 18 digs.

Huntington remains within one match of Adena in the SVC standings, following a 3-2 win over Southeastern (25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 25-27, 15-8). Southeastern’s Jozy Loughheed gained her 1,000th career dig in the match.

Adena travels to upset minded Zane Trace Thursday, while Huntington faces Westfall.

Bloom Carroll 3, Circleville 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16)
Bloom Carroll improved to (8-0/13-1) with their sweep of Circleville, which dropped the Tigers two matches at (5-2/10-6).

The Bulldogs were led by Corinne Knapp with 18 kills, Madison Lacy 42 assists and 11 digs. Evelyn Brown had 14 kills and 3 blocks, and Sienna Hogue with 13 digs.

No stats are available at this time for Circleville, but the match marked the return of Circleville’s 6’1 sophomore Addison Edgington, playing her first match since suffering serious injuries in an automobile crash last Winter.
