Huntington had match point at 14-12 in Set 5, before Adena closed on a 4-0 run for the match win.

Huntington opened with a Set 1 victory of 25-18, after breaking away from a 12-12 tie.

Trailing 10-3 in Set 2, the Warriors battled back and led 21-18, when Huntington cut the margin to 21-20. Following a Warriors’ time out, Adena closed on a 4-1 run for a 25-21 victory to even the match at (1-1).

Set 3 saw Adena leading 12-8, then Huntington tied it 13-13. The Warriors built a lead as large as 18-14, with the Huntsmen drawing to within 21-20. Adena scored the next four points, ending the Set on a Jacey Smith kill for 25-20 win and a (2-1) match lead for the Warriors.

After a Huntington 7-4 start in Set 4, the match tightened with ties at 13-13 and 14-14, before the Huntsmen pulled away for a 19-14 advantage. The Warriors scrambled back to tie it at 19-19 and 20-20, but Huntington closed on a 5-1 run for a 25-21 victory to even the match at (2-2) and send it to a fifth and deciding set. Huntington was (5-0) in five set match wins this year and Adena (2-0), coming into Thursday’s match.

In Set 5, Adena darted out of the gate for a 7-2 lead, but Huntington battled back on the strong hitting of Kaci Carroll and Brailee Hauswirth to lift the Huntsmen to leads of 11-9 and 13-11, before the Warriors cut it to 13-12 on a Caroline Glandon kill. Huntington scored next and had Match Point at 14-12. However, Adena went on a 4-0 scoring run and ended the match on a Katie Burns kill for the 16-14 match victory- clinching no worse than a share of the SVC Championship.

Stats are now official.

Adena was powered at the net by junior Katie Burns and senior Corinne Day, who unofficially had 31 and 26 kills respectively. Junior hitter Caroline Glandon added 3 kills, freshman Jacey Jones 3, and junior Jacey Smith 1. Burns added 3 blocks, while Day and Jones each had 2 blocks. Kamryn Sowers had 24 digs, Kimmy Dalton 22, Jacey Smith 17, Kayla Grooms, and 13 from Kortney Sowers. Kayla Grooms fired 3 of Adena’s 8 serving aces and Jacey Smith added 2.

Huntington senior Kaci Carroll blasted 21 kills, freshman Brailee Hauswirth powered 16 kills, senior Allie Baker 11, and freshman Lydia Black had 9 kills. Kenley Smith added 2 kills and Leah McCloskey 1. Hauswirth also had 2 blocks and two serving aces. Defensive leaders were Isabella Steele with 23 digs, Allie Baker 20, and Leah McCloskey had 20 digs and one ace.

The Warriors had 8 serving aces and Huntington 7.

The win completed a regular season sweep for the Warriors, who have handed Huntington their only two losses. The first match at Adena was (25-17, 25-16, 25-19)

Adena closes SVC play next with Paint Valley and Piketon on October 8th and 10th, respectively. Huntington travels to Piketon Tuesday and hosts Unioto Thursday. The Warriors only need one win in their last two to claim the conference title outright, but two wins gives them a Gold Ball.
