Bloom Carroll Gains Sole Possession of MSL Buckeye Lead In Victory Over Logan Elm

Homecoming Night was the backdrop for the Bloom Carroll Bulldogs night to shine in a 41-14 trouncing of Logan Elm in a battle of MSL Buckeye co-leaders, Friday at Carl Fell Stadium. The win propels Bloom Carroll into sole possession of the league lead at (4-0/6-1). The Braves fall to (3-1/5-2).

The game was scoreless until the Bulldogs capitalized on Logan Elm turnovers on consecutive possessions for a 14-0 lead.

The first score came at 1:22 of the first quarter on a 18 yard TD throw from Ethan Thanthanvong to Jude Blair, capping a 3 play/16 yard drive that was set up off a Braves punt reception fumble. The next score came after a Bastian Ovalle interception of an Aaron Walters pass, which was returned to the Logan Elm 12 yard line. Thanthanavong scored on a 15 yard run, three plays later at 9:27 in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 21-0 at 5:50 of the second quarter when Beau Sherman darted 14 yards for a touchdown to complete a 55 yard drive in 5 plays. That score held up at intermission.

Logan Elm succeeded in recovering the ball on a Maggie Wilson onside kick to start the third period, then scored 42 yards later in 3 plays when Michael Bock scored on a 16 yard run at 10:39 remaining in the third, followed by a Wilson PAT for a 21-7 score.

Bloom Carroll drove 59 yards in 12 plays for a Jude Blair 2 yard TD run, but the PAT kick was blocked for a 27-7 BC advantage.

That lead grew to 34-7 at 2:37 of the third period when Thanthanavong fired a 44 yard scoring strike to Evan Cardenas.

Logan Elm countered with an 80 yard scoring drive, aided by BC penalties and a 31 yard pass to Ne’Miah Waugh inside the 5 yard line. Aaron Walters scored from one yard out to cut the BC lead to 34-14 with 57 seconds to play in the quarter. But, that margin ballooned to the 41-7 final score when Bloom Carroll at 4:43 remaining when Thanthanavong raced 2 yards to cap off a 42 yard/9 play drive.

Total yards were almost even between the teams, with Logan Elm compiling 265 compared to Bloom Carroll’s 252.

Ethan Thanthanavong was named Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Player of the Game” as he rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns, along with completing 7 of 12 passes for 113 yards and two more touchdowns.

The lone negative for the Bulldogs was there 14 penalties for 120 yards.

Michael Bock of Logan Elm rushed for 120 yards on 26 carries.
