At the completion of the 2024 Chillicothe High School Football season, Head Coach Scott Bartholomew has resigned as the Head Football Coach. Coach Bartholomew has held the position for the previous three seasons.
“I want to thank Coach Bart for everything he has done for the Cavalier Football program over the past three seasons. He has been an incredible asset to not just the Football program, but to the Chillicothe City School District as a whole. We will miss him on the sidelines, and wish him the best of luck in his retirement from coaching,” according to Athletic Director Knute Bonner.
Coach Scott Bartholomew stated- “I would like to thank the administration and the board of education for giving me the opportunity to be the head football coach at Chillicothe High School. My experience with the kids was outstanding, the support from the administration was unwavering and greatly appreciated. However, for a number of reasons I have decided to step down as head football coach at this time.”
The Cavs made the playoffs in his first season at the helm but failed to qualify the last two years. When the season ended last Friday, it was Bartholomew’s 428th game as either a head coach or an assistant. His career head coaching record is 176-110 with six league championships along the way.
He came to Chillicothe in 2022 after spending seven years as an assistant to his son Wade at Bloom-Carroll where the Bulldogs went on a string of six consecutive playoff years. During that span, BC was 11-6 with appearances in the 2020 state semi-final and the 2021 D-III state championship game, a 24-21 loss to Clinton-Massie.
Bartholomew’s most successful runs were at Logan Elm (53-26) and Westfall (57-29). He led the Braves to six playoff appearances, including a 28-14 win over Chillicothe in 2008 and five years later a 74-55 shootout with the Athens Bulldogs, who were led by a kid named Joe Burrow.
While at Westfall, the Mustangs made four straight post season trips, winning two of the six games played.
Bartholomew’s first head coaching experience came at Oak Hill in 1990 after having served as an assistant coach the previous six years out of Wilmington College. His mark leading the Oaks was 52-28.
The search for the position of Chillicothe Varsity Head Football Coach will begin immediately.
