Adena Advances to Elite 8 With 3-0 Win Over SVC Rival Zane Trace

The SVC matchup in Thursday’s Division 5 Volleyball Regional Semi at Logan High School saw (23-3) Adena complete a sweep of (14-12) Zane Trace, (25-16, 25-17, 27-25), to advance to face (24-2) Wheelersburg at 2pm Saturday for a trip to the State Final 4.
The Warriors needed to rally from down 18-24 in Set 3 behind the serving of Jacey Smith and Kayla Grooms, along with the front row attack of Corinne Day to pull off the sweep.
Adena led most all of Set 1, darting out to leads of 8-3, 14-6, and 20-12. ZT got to within 21-14, before the Warriors closed it off at 25-16.
Set 2 was tighter with the Pioneers trailing 9-8, before Adena rattled off a 15-10 advantage. ZT closed that gap to 15-13 and 18-16, before the Warriors went off on a run 7-1 to close the Set 25-17 for a (2-0) lead in the match.
Set 3 saw Zane Trace leading most of the way, and had lead margins of 21-16 and Set-Point at 24-18. Adena got the ball back with Jacey Smith serving and Corinne Day taking over to even it at 24-24. The Pioneers got a kill for another Set-Point at 25-24, but Adena would score the next three points for a 27-25 win and the match sweep.
Corinne Day and Katie Burns led the Adena attack with 24 kills each. Caroline Glandon had 3 kills, including the match-ending kill on an overpass, while Jacey Jones and Jacey Smith each had 1 kill. Day also had 4 blocks and Burns had 2.
Zane Trace was led by Kailee Johnson’s 10 kills, 9 from Addison Platt, 8 from Karlee Snavely, and 6 from Lainee Scott. Johnson also had 4 blocks and Snavely with 2.
