Lancaster Hosting Advent Window Walk Every Day of December

The Christmas season is underway, and Lancaster is doing something special to celebrate.
In 2022, Joseph Taylor created the Advent Window Walk, a tradition that he borrowed from Europe. The idea is a living advent calendar that people can see when they walk or drive through the historic downtown.
“A home in our neighborhood for each night of advent leading up to Christmas lights up a window in their house,” said Taylor. “It’s really cool and so by the time Christmas rolls around we’ve got 24 houses just around our little neighborhood and they’re all lit up with festive designs.”
The windows include twenty-four houses and three nonprofits, including the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, the Fairfield County Foundation, and the Fairfield County District Library. The Fairfield County Foundation is decorating a window for Hanukkah, and the library is decorating for Kwanzaa, both of which begin on December 26th.
The windows are lit each night from 6pm-10pm, and once a house is lit it will remain lit until January first each night. Taylor said that some houses will invite guests inside for cookies and hot chocolate as a way of bringing the community together during the holidays.
Each house also has a QR code with the history of the home as well as pictures from previous years’ window walks.
