McClain Swimmers Sweep FAC Championships

The McClain Tigers Swim teams swept the Frontier Athletic Conference Meets this week. The Girls edged Chillicothe 346-305 Wednesday and the Boys outdistanced the Cavaliers 412-338. Chillicothe had won the previous three FAC titles. The Tigers last won in 2021.

Wednesday, the Chillicothe Girls won all three relays and won two individual events, Sarah Johansen in the 100 Fly and Reina Cunningham in the 100 Backstroke. The two were also on winning relay teams: the 200 Medley with Alex Erslan and Addison Gibson; the 200 Free with Gibson and Bella Flores; the 400 Free with Gibson and Anne Maimone.

Swimmers placing first receive All-FAC honors. Washington’s Alyson Fortner took the 200 Free; Laura Barber of McClain won the 200 IM and 100 Free; Miami Trace’s Brianna Parker finished first in the 500 Free and 100 Breaststroke and Hillsboro’s Kamryn Asbury won the 50 Free.

In Thursday’s Boys Meet, Chillicothe was edged by the Tigers and Hillsboro in two relays. McClain’s team of Nicolas Alvarez, Ethan Eakins, Zach Scales and Cole Walker took the 200 Medley with a 1.11 second victory and Hillsboro won the 200 Free by.38 second ahead of Chillicothe behind Cooper Swope, Cameron Burkard, Ryan Fender and Robert Schneider. Chillicothe’s Noah Flores, Isaac Crawford, Jonathan Crawford and Aiden Montgomery took the 400 Free by nearly 10 seconds.

Individual Winners included Chillicothe’s Jonathan Crawford in the 200 Free; Hillsboro’s Cameron Burkard won the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke; Zach Scales of McClain was first in the 50 Free and 100 Free; the Cavaliers’ Aiden Montgomery won the 100 Fly; Noah Hickman-Beck took the 500 Free and Ethan Eakins won the 100 Backstroke.

The Southeast District Swim Meet is February 8th at Ohio University.
