Article Presented By Rathkamp Financial…
Trailing most of the game, the Southeastern Panthers rallied late, but fell just short to the Peebles Indians 56-51 in the Division 6 Boys District Quarterfinal Friday at Southeastern High School’s Larry Jordan Gymnasium.
Peebles sprinted to an 8-0 start and held two separate seven-point advantages, only to see Southeastern rally to within one or two of the lead on two occasions. The Panthers took their only lead of the contest at 51-50 when Brevin Strausbaugh connected on a three-point goal with 1:34 remaining in regulation. Following an Indians timeout, Peebles came right back with Grady Knechtly hitting two free throws with 40 seconds to play for a 52-51 advantage, and never relinquished to lead in the 56-51 victory. Peebles led at each stop, 12-9 after one quarter, 22-17 at halftime, 39-34 after three, then the 56-51 final.
While the Indians shot 20/41 from the field for a total of 48%, they connected on an eye-bulging 9/18 from the arc for 50%. Peebles added 7/10 from the charity stripe, committed 10 turnovers and grabbed 20 rebounds.
Southeastern was 19/44- including 7/19 from the arc for 43%, also going 6/7 from the foul line. The Panthers committed 9 turnovers and hauled-down 17 rebounds.
Peebles’ dynamic-duo of sophomore Josh McClary and junior Paxton Ryan, each scored 19 points. Carson Reed added 9, Grady Knechtly 6, and Garrett Shiveley hit a trey (3) to round-out their scoring.
Southeastern was led by senior Lane Williams with 18 points, sophomore Brayden Burns scored 12, junior Brevin Strausbaugh 11, junior Gage Cheadle, and senior Carter Fisher added 4 points.
Bryan Alley’s Southeastern Panthers conclude their season at (15-8), improving upon last year’s 9-win season. Peebles improves to (10-12) under head coach Josh Avery, who is now the Indians all-time winningest basketball coach with 236 victories. The Indians now face Huntington at 8:30pm on February 26th at Jackson High School.
