Fairfield Union Second Half Defense Smothers Circleville Lady Tigers District Title Hopes

Article Presented By Tomlinson Insurance…

Fairfield Union’s second half defensive performance against Circleville in the Division 4 District Championship showed why the Lady Falcons are now (25-0), as they defeated their MSL Buckeye foe 35-22.

Trailing 15-12 at halftime, Fairfield Union continued their relentless pressure defense, forcing 16 of the Lady Tigers 22 turnovers in the second half alone. That same defense also aided the Falcons’ 19-2 scoring run that gave them a 31-17 advantage midway through the final quarter, propelling their winning effort.

Circleville was held scoreless in the third period as Fairfield Union’s 7-0 scoring stanza gave them a 19-15 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers’ defense also played well, holding Fairfield Union to only 24% field goal shooting for the game at 10/42- including 5/15 from the three-point arc. The Lady Falcons added 10/18 at the free throw line, committed 16 turnovers and grabbed 20 rebounds.

Circleville shot 9/28 from the field- including 2/7 from the arc for 32% total. The Tigers added 2/6 at the foul line, committed 22 turnovers (6 in first half), and grabbed 19 rebounds.

Christian Thompson led all players with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Maycee Martindill scored 7 points, Maddie Mitchell and Taylor Smeck each scored 4, and Alexis Leith added 2 points.

Circleville’s Addison Edgington led the Lady Tigers with 8 points and 8 rebounds, as Fairfield Union’s defense did an outstanding job of denying the 6’2 sophomore any easy shots at the bucket. Kaylee West added 6 points, Maddie Blakeman and Jocelyn McLaughlin each scored 3 points, and Mallory McConnell scored 2.

Circleville concludes their season as district runner-up with a (20-5) record. (25-0) Fairfield Union advances to the Zanesville Regional Semi Tuesday (2/25/25) against Indian Creek, who beat West Holmes in the East District Final 43-36.
