Boys Wrestling: District Champs for Smith, Bucklew & Martin; 24 Qualify for State Meet

Article presented by Tomlinson Insurance Agency

A trio of local wrestlers were crowned District Champions Saturday at their respective meets.

Chillicothe’s Cannan Smith won the 132 class and Vinton County’s Travis Bucklew took the 126 title at Steubenville HS and Amanda Cleacreek’s Bodie Martin won the 150 class at Troy. Twenty four wrestlers qualified for the OHSAA State Meet at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University. The top four wrestlers in each meet qualified for the State Tournament next weekend with 5th place finishers as alternates should one of the top four in each weight class is unable to compete in the meet. Five local wrestlers earned alternate spots.

Local Teams placing in the top 10 include Miami Trace, 5th in D-II at Steubenville, Teays Valley at 6th in D-I at Hillard Darby and Huntington 10th in D-III at Coshocton.
