OHSAA Wrestling: 10 Local Grapplers Vie for Podium Spots Sunday

It’s Wrestling Championship Day in the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University Sunday, with a handful of local wrestlers still in battle Sunday.

Makenna Craft from Jackson is a match away from a 44-0 season and posting her fourth consecutive state title in the 100-pound class of Girls Wrestling. She’ll face Tionra’s Bella Graziani Sunday.

Adena’s Kayla Grooms battled her way through the consolation rounds to wrestle wind up with a fifth place finish on Sunday. After dropping her opening match Friday, she advanced by closing with a win in the 110 class on Day 1. Saturday opened with a medical forfeiture and earned a win by scoring a win in 29 seconds over Charlize Distel from Arcadia to make it to Day 3. She finished with a win on Sunday that gave her a fifth place finish as All Ohioan and sets a new school record for wins in a season.

Washington CH’s Lyndyn Gibbs is still alive at 115 and could also reach as high as third place on Sunday. She dropped into the consolation rounds on Saturday.   

Brooklyn Whited of Logan fights for the 135 championship Sunday, facing Seneca East’s Kiera Depinet.

Waverly’s Abby Green earned back-to-back wins Saturday and could reach as high as 3rd place in the 140-class. She’ll battle Alliance’s Adilyn Mosden to start Day 3.

Logan Elm’s Dawson Hudson has battled to Day 3 and can finish as high as 3rd. Hudson will open with Indian Valley’s Bronko Braun in Division-II’s 113-class Sunday.

Lyric Dickerson of Miami Trace has advanced to Sunday at 120 in D-II to face Wauseon’s Carter Stuckey.

Dickerson’s Panther teammate, Mythias Stuckey bounced Vinton County’s Travis Bucklew 10-9 Saturday and will wrestle on Day 3 at 126. He’ll open with Sawyer Smith from Perkins Sunday.

Simon Imboden of Athens remains alive at 150 and will open with Giovanni Duniec from Padua Franciscan Sunday.

And in D-III, Amanda Clearcreek’s Bodie Martin closed Day 2 with a loss to drop him into the 150 consolation round where he’ll square off with Wayndale’s Dalton Oberly Sunday.   

Session 4 consolation matches begin at 9:30am Sunday through 2pm. The Parade of Champions followed by the Championship matches begin at 5pm.
