Ohio History Day State Contest Slated April 26th

(Bexley) – The Ohio History Day state contest, an annual event affiliated with National History Day and coordinated by the Ohio History Connection, will be Saturday, April 26, at Capital University, 2360 East Mound Street in Bexley.

The nonprofit program empowers students from all backgrounds and abilities to tell stories from history that inspire them. Students go beyond the textbook to create imaginative exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites and scholarly papers. Over the past months, thousands of students have researched and developed history projects related to the theme of “Rights and Responsibilities in History.”

Ohio History Day supports history education in local schools, and thousands of students compete across the state each year. Contests are divided into three tiers: regional, state and national contests. All students must qualify at their regional contest to advance to the state level.

The national contest will be June 8-12 at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Ohio is the birthplace of National History Day in 1974 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. The program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

Research shows that students who participate in an interdisciplinary and project-based learning program, like Ohio History Day, do better on tests, have stronger critical thinking skills, develop social and emotional skills and are better prepared for college and professional careers.
