
Chillicothe Boys Volleyball Sweeps Whetstone

(12-1) Chillicothe used late serving runs in Sets #1 and #3 for a (25-23, 25-17, 25-21) boys volleyball win over (10-7) Whetstone at Hatton Memorial Gym Thursday. The two turning point runs were part of 10 serving aces the Cavs had in the match.
In Set 1, after holding a 13-9 lead, Chillicothe found themselves trailing 23-21, where they retook the momentum to close on a 4-1 run for the 25-23 decision for a (1-0) match lead.
The Cavs led most of Set 2 as they cruised to a 25-17 win.
Set 3 saw Chillicothe build what seemed would be a run-away lead at 17-12, only to see the Braves climb back into the match with a 7-1 run for a 19-18 advantage. Whetstone was up 21-20, when Chillicothe closed on a 5-0 run for the match deciding 25-21 victory.

The Cavs offense was propelled by Mercer Cutright and “McDonald’s Player of the Match” Jace Copley with 10 and 9 kills respectively. Carter Dunfee added 7 kills, David Rouke 6, and Jeremyah Teurman with 3. Defensively, Chillicothe was led by Isaac Herlihy’s 10 digs, Cutright with 9 and Sunny Garcia with 6.
Whetstone was led by Trey Hurt’s 10 kills and 7 from Jesus Mercado. Tyler Dignan added 4 kills and Yolath Ruiz with 3.
