Kenton Ridge Ends Hillsboro State Title Hope With 9-0 Victory in State Championship Game

Article Presented By Ross Chillicothe Convention & Visitor’s Bureau…

Thursday’s OHSAA State Softball Championship game didn’t go as well as the Hillsboro Lady Indians would have liked, but it doesn’t take away from their history making tournament run.

Typically, if a softball pitcher throws a 3-hitter, you would think they would be on the winning side. That wasn’t to be the case for Hillsboro’s All-State fireballer Cameron Spruell in the Lady Indians 9-0 loss to (32-0) Springfield Kenton Ridge in the Division 4 State Championship at Akron’s Firestone Stadium.

Three fielding errors and four walks helped to spell doom for Hillsboro as Kenton Ridge capitalized with 1 run in the first inning, then followed with 7 in the third, and 1 in the fifth inning.

Hillsboro actually out-hit Kenton Ridge 5-3. Spruell struck-out 7 opposing batters. Isabelle Brunck was the lone Lady Indian will multiple hits in the contest as she went 2 for 3.
