117th OHSAA State Track & Field Championships Feature Numerous Area Athletes

(Columbus) – The 117th Annual Boys and 50th Annual Girls Ohio High School Athletic Association Track and Field State Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University netted numerous top 8 finishes and 10 individual state titles from 7 different athletes in our area. Four of those were double gold winners.

Dozens of area athletes competed at the championships with top 8 finishers receiving points and ranking as All Ohioan.

Double state champions included Chayse Lindscomb of Fairfield Union in both the D-2 boys 110 and 300 hurdles. Each in record time. Whiteoak’s Landen Eyre won two state titles, claiming the 1600 and 3200 run.  South Point’s Derrick Taylor won the Division 2 shot put and discus. Another double winner was Sophia Szolosi of Athens is state champ in the D-2 1600 and 3200 run.

Fairfield Union’s Christian Thompson claimed the Division 2 girls high jump title. The Division 3 boys 800 run was claimed by North Adams’ Beau Hesler. The Division 3 girls pole vault title went to Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle won a state crown with a best mark of 12-foot-4. Montle also placed 7th in the 100 hurdles, placing seventh.

Adena’s Joey Francis grabbed a third place finish in the long jump and Rock Hill’s Izaak Cox was seventh.

The D-2 boys pole vault saw Zane Trace’s Hudson Williams taking second place. Waverly’s Paige O’Bryant finished eighth in the in the long jump. Katie Burns of Adena was 8th in the girls high jump.

Wheelersburg’s Ella Hochstetler is state runner-up in the shot put. South Point’s Savannah Perego finished third in the discus. Wheelersburg’s Cashton Adkins was third in the discus and Ison Emnett placed sixth. Gallia Academy’s Cory Mock took home seventh place.

In the girls long jump, Sydney Lattimer of Circleville finished fourth place.

Fairfield Union’s Averey Cottrill was third in the 100 hurdles. She was also on the 7th place 4×400 relay with Katherine Welsh, Kyla Gasser and Abigail Pike.

South Point’s Emma Layne finished second in both the 100 and 200.

Fairfield Union’s Andrew Walton placed second in the 1600.

Wheelersburg’s 4×400 relay of Elijah Brown, Xander Mowery, Ethan Hochstetler and Kayson Whitt finished in fourth.

Southeastern’s Rowan Ruckel finished eighth in the shotput. Notre Dame’s Ryan Purcell took the eighth slot in the 1600.

Lancaster had several athletes with top 8 finishes. Marisa Heil takes fourth and Harper Allen takes seventh in the 1600. Heil is also the state runner-up in the 3200. Gabe McNeil is All-Ohio in the 800, finishing 6th. Brock Jarrett places 3rd in the 1600. 4×800 team of Marisa Heil, Amelia Fries, Hadley Allen, and Harper Allen are second.
