
Licking Valley Halts Circleville State Bid With 6-2 Regional Champion Victory

The (22-8) Circleville Tigers came within one game of a state tournament berth, falling to the (21-6) Licking Valley Panthers 6-2 in the Division 3 Regional Championship game at VA Memorial Stadium.
The Panthers scored a run in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead, before Circlevlle got on the board in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Licking Valley added three runs in the sixth inning to pull away to a 6-1 advantage, with the Tigers scratching out another run in the sixth for the final score of 6-2.
Licking Valley’s scoring came from an RBI single by Silas Kyle for 1-0 LV lead in the first. Brody Rodgers’ RBI single in the second made it 2-0 and Evan Lichtenauer’s sacrifice fly made it 3-0 in the third.
Circleville’s Glavine Bigam picked up an RBI single in the third making it 3-1.
The Panthers break-out inning was the top of the 6th one out with a Silas Kyle suicide squeeze making 4-1. A sacrifice fly added made it 5-1, then Cam Sopher’s RBI single upped the margin to 6-1 Licking Valley.
Circleville cut it to 6-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning on an RBI single by Chase Foster 6-2, which wrapped up the scoring.
Winning pitcher Evan Roberts of Licking Valley struck-out 8 Tigers and yielded only 4 hits in the game. Chase Foster suffered the loss for Circleville, as the Panthers picked up 8 base hits.
