Poison Hemlock Becoming More Prevalent In Ohio

Article Presented By Ross Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau…

(Circleville) – Watch out for Poison Hemlock, which is popping up across Ohio — and it’s as dangerous as it looks. This invasive plant may look like Queen Anne’s Lace, but don’t be fooled — even touching Poison Hemlock can be harmful.

Here’s what to know:
Do NOT touch it — toxins can absorb through your skin
Do NOT breathe in particles while mowing or trimming
Keep kids & pets away — it’s extremely toxic if ingested
If you must remove it, wear gloves, long sleeves, and a mask

It has smooth purple-speckled stems, fern-like leaves, and umbrella-shaped white flower clusters. When in doubt, stay out.

If you suspect you’ve found it, take a photo and call your local extension office or county public health for guidance.
