Ohio Congressman Revives Idea Of Creating Interstate 73 Corridor Along U.S. Route 23

(Washington) – Ohio Congressman David Taylor has introduced House Resolution 608, supporting a study on the development of an Interstate 73 corridor spanning southern Ohio and recognizing the significant economic benefits it could bring to local businesses.

This is not a new idea, as talk of creating Interstate 73 and Interstate 74 to run through southern Ohio, has been around since the 1990’s. Initial feasibility studies showed that the cost of building these routes could exceed their perceived economic benefits, leading some states to withdraw support. However, recent legislative actions and ongoing studies indicate a renewed push for the project.
The proposed Interstate 73 would largely follow U.S. Highway 23, running south from Toledo, through Columbus, Circleville, Chillicothe and down to the Kentucky/West Virginia border, promoting connectivity, safety, and economic growth throughout Ohio’s southern region.
Plans for having an Interstate 74 to also include southern Ohio, would have encompassed what is now Ohio State Route 32, which is also known as the Appalachian Highway. Calls for that becoming an interstate has grown quiet over the last decade.
