(Circleville) – The Pickaway County Visitors Bureau, in partnership with City of Circleville Mayor Michelle Blanton, has officially begun preparations for America 250, the nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The celebration will honor the county’s place in America’s story while bringing the community together for a year of history, pride, and connection.
Planning meetings are already underway and include leaders from Pickaway County government, the City of Circleville, Village of Williamsport, historical organizations, nonprofits, and community groups. The committee’s focus is on incorporating an America 250 theme into existing events as well as inspiring new programming that showcases Pickaway County’s unique contributions to the nation’s heritage.
Mayor Michelle Blanton said, “Circleville is proud to be part of this historic milestone as we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. This is more than a national birthday — it’s a chance for our community to reflect on the values we hold dear and the unique role Pickaway County has played in shaping our nation’s story.”
She added, “I’m excited to work alongside our partners and neighbors to integrate meaningful experiences into their yearly programming that honor our past and inspire future generations.”
The America 250 Pickaway County Committee is inviting residents, businesses, and organizations to join in planning, shaping, and promoting local initiatives. “We encourage all to become involved,” said Elizabeth Furniss, Executive Director of the Pickaway County Visitors Bureau. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell Pickaway County’s story and celebrate how our local history connects to the founding and growth of our nation.”
The America-250 Ohio Community program is a cornerstone of the Commission’s community engagement initiatives, which are designed to foster collaboration across Ohio’s 88 counties as the state prepares to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. “The goal of bringing Ohioans together to celebrate and commemorate our state’s place in American history is central to the work of the America 250-Ohio Commission,” said Taylore Tomu, community engagement and outreach specialist at America 250-Ohio. “The Commission is excited to welcome Pickaway County, City of Circleville and the Village of Williamsport as official partners, and we look forward to working together to make the America-250 commemoration memorable.”
The Pickaway County Visitors Bureau will maintain a dedicated countywide calendar at Pickaway.com for all America 250 events. Community members and organizations are encouraged to send event details to events@pickaway.com and indicate if the event is part of the America 250 celebration.
