Adena Survives Scare at Piketon to Win Undisputed SVC Volleyball Championship

Article Presented By McDonald’s, “I’m Lovin’ It!”

(UPDATE) – Adena won their 17th SVC Gold Volleyball with a  (25-16, 25-23, 25-19) win over Southeastern Thursday to conclude their regular season at (14-0/21-1).

(Story from 10/7/25) – If the Adena Warriors thought they would have a “cake walk” at SVC (1-12) Piketon Tuesday to wrap up an outright SVC Volleyball title, they were mistaken. While the Warriors won the match (25-8, 23-25, 25-18, 25-4), Piketon jolted Adena with some lighting streaks of their own in the middle two sets as the Redstreaks were throwing some major effort into an upset bid of the state’s Division 5 top ranked team.

The Warriors had no trouble in Set 1, darting out to a 9-0 start and never saw their lead dip below double digits the rest of that stanza for a 25-8 victory at a (1-0) match advantage.

However, Set 2 took on a different tone early with the Redstreaks grabbing a 12-7 lead. The Warriors were able go on a 7-1 run for their only lead of that set (14-13), but Piketon regained the attack and played scrappy back row defense in keeping multiple Warriors attacks in play. Adena fought off a 24-21 set-point advantage for Piketon, cutting it to 24-23, but the Streaks put that frame away for a 25-23 win to even the match (1-1).

Set 3 looked good for the Warriors to start as they grabbed an 8-3 advantage. But, Piketon clawed back thanks to a 9-1 run for a 12-9 lead over Adena. The Redstreaks held their advantage deeper into Set 3 with a 17-14 edge when the Warriors closed on a 11-1 run for the 25-18 win and a (2-1) lead in the match.

Adena’s Set 3 close continued into Set 4 as Adena pounced to a 10-0 start and never looked back for a 25-4 victory.

(13-0/20-1) Adena repeats as outright conference champ and will attempt to claim the SVC Gold Ball for a perfect conference season as they host a tough Southeastern club Thursday night. Adena Volleyball now has 33 SVC titles in school history.
