(Chillicothe) – The Majestic Theatre is proud to announce the completion of its roof replacement project, a significant step in the ongoing preservation and restoration of one of Ohio’s oldest operating theatres.
The project replaced the north, south, and west roof sections, along with new gutters and downspouts to ensure proper drainage and protection of the historic structure. The east section of the roof had been previously replaced and did not require work as part of this project. This important project was made possible through generous grant funding provided by the Robert E. & Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund with The Columbus Foundation and through funding provided by the Chillicothe-Ross Community Foundation.

“The completion of this project marks another milestone in safeguarding the Majestic Theatre’s legacy for future generations,” said Gene Betts, President of the Board of Directors. “We’re deeply grateful for the continued support from our community and local foundations who share our vision for preserving this historic landmark.”
Originally built in 1853, the Majestic Theatre has entertained residents and visitors for more than 170 years. The theatre remains a cultural centerpiece in downtown Chillicothe, hosting live performances, films, and community events.

Since 2017, the Majestic Theatre Board of Directors has led multiple major preservation projects funded through grants and community support. Prior to the roof replacement, improvements included construction of a new accessible entrance and restrooms as well as installation of a modern HVAC system to enhance patron comfort, extend programming year long, and protecting the building’s structure through improved moisture control.
These collective efforts are part of the Board’s long-term vision to restore and maintain the Majestic Theatre, ensuring it continues to serve as a vibrant gathering place for arts and entertainment for future generations.
