SOCCo Supports Waverly Program to Help Students Succeed

PIKETON, OH – When students face obstacles outside the classroom that can impact their success, Waverly City School’s Community Outreach and Parent Engagement Program (COPE) is there to help guide and facilitate solutions.

The Southern Ohio Cleanup Company (SOCCo) recognizes the importance of supporting local students and recently donated $3,000 to COPE. “It is no secret that poverty plays a significant role in our community. It is encouraging to see schools like Waverly are working beyond the school day to make sure all students have important basic needs met, “said SOCCo President and CEO Greg Wilkett.

COPE helps with a variety of needs including food, utility assistance, clothing, helping family members or students find jobs, transportation, miscellaneous costs for school and extra-curricular activities, holidays, medical and dental needs, and connecting families to the right resources to get the help they need.

“Our teachers and administrators do a fabulous job identifying students who need assistance, and it is done in a way that other students are not aware. Just as important as the help, is meeting those needs while providing the dignity of privacy,” said COPE Coordinator and Waverly High School Assistant Principal Brack Montgomery.

The program is in its seventh year. About a quarter of the entire student population receives help in some form from COPE.
