Fayette County Public Health is recognizing the work of its staff of the nursing and clinical division, which has been busy this fall.
FCPH staff conducted vision and hearing screenings, immunizations, reproductive health and wellness services, and outreach, and organizing charitable drives for the community in which they live and serve.
“Our nurses live and serve in this community, and it shows,” said Ashley Roberts, RN, director of nursing. “Their work extends beyond clinics and schools to personal acts of service. Their hearts for this community are reflected in everything they do. I’m so proud of this team.”
More than fifty flu vaccinations were administered by FCPH nurses in a Drive-Up Flu Clinic last October.
Other highlights included Vision & Hearing Screenings with the iSee Program. FCPH completed more than 2,900 vision and hearing screenings across Fayette County schools this fall to help identify early concerns and support student learning. In November, FCPH, in collaboration with the Miami Trace Wellness Committee, participated in the iSee Ohio program funded by the Ohio Optometric Foundation. The program delivered vision screenings to 58 students, with 53 receiving new prescription glasses at no cost to families.
The staff provided community education sessions and outreach at local shelters, recovery programs, and community centers to increase access to reproductive health information and services. Nursing staff also brought on-site flu vaccination clinics to area businesses and agencies, making it easier for employees to get vaccinated without leaving the workplace.
In addition, the FCPH nursing staff is participating in ongoing electronic medical record (EMR) professional development initiatives to support quality patient care and organizational best practices. This included a two-day conference in December. And FCPH works with community partners year-round through planning to support families’ access to food. Staff also wanted to help personally this month. A food drive collected $520 and 428.8 pounds of food, which were presented to Hands of Christ Ministry.
The FCPH staff is currently conducting a clothing and hygiene supplies drive for Second Chance Center of Hope.
