OHIO Chillicothe to Host Expansive Ideas Presentation on March 5

Article presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling & Plumbing

Ohio University Chillicothe will present an Expansive Ideas presentation on titled The Changing Night Sky with Associate Professor of Instruction Michael Koop on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 5 p.m. in the Bennett Hall Auditorium.

For much of human history, the night sky was thought to be eternal and unchanging. We now know that the Universe is constantly changing, with galaxies colliding, stars forming and exploding, and a myriad of other celestial events. We’ll explore what we know about these events and even how they play a part in where we come from.

“I’ve had the opportunity to experience Dr. Koop’s presentations firsthand, and I can tell you they genuinely expand how you think about our universe,” said Mike Lafreniere, interim dean of campus and community relations at OHIO Chillicothe. “Dr. Koop has a rare ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging while creating an experience that helps you appreciate our place in the cosmos. Whether you’re a student exploring future academic paths, an educator looking for ways to inspire scientific curiosity, or simply someone who wants to understand the quantum world that shapes our everyday technologies, this presentation offers something valuable.”

Dr. Koop teaches a variety of classes in physics, physical science, and astronomy, in addition to producing the “Expansive Ideas” program designed to help encourage and engage students of all kinds in scientific inquiry. His research focuses on gravitational wave astronomy.

All ages are welcome for this interactive presentation.
