The Lady Tigers celebrate a Sweet 16 win with their Circleville classmates.

Circleville Heads to Elite Eight with 46-34 Victory

Article presented by Herlihy Moving & Storage and Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau

Circleville turned a six-point halftime deficit into a 46-34 victory over West Holmes Tuesday. The win sends the Tigers back to Zanesville for a Regional Championship match up with Indian Creek.

The Knights had controlled the first half offensively to post a 23-17 lead at the break. West Holmes had a momentum boost when Lilli Brown nailed a three-point buzzer beater to close out the half. It was the fourth made shot from beyond the arc for the girls from Millersburg.

It appeared to be the wake up call the Tigers needed.

About the photo: One of the few times Circleville’s Addison Edgington went to the basket without a Knight making body contact.

Circleville came out of the locker room with a different disposition. Mallory McConnell and Addison Edgington scored the first three baskets after the break to knot the game at 23-23. West Holmes quickly responded to retake the lead. Maddie Blakeman sank a three-pointer to give the Tigers a momentary 28-26 lead. Briar Cline answered with a triple. It was the last time West Holmes held an advantage.

With its inside game re-established, Circleville began stretch the floor getting Edgington behind the West Holmes defense. The Knights continually had bodies on Edgington every time she touched the ball. The Tigers forced a handful of West Holmes turnovers in the third period and used the fast break to give their post player room to get to the basket. Edgington tied the score at 28-28 on a pair of free throws. She followed it up with a layup to put Circleville ahead 30-28 with 3:13 left in the period. The Tigers wouldn’t trail again.

The Mid State League champs went on an 8-1 run to hold a 38-29 lead heading into the final quarter. The 27-6 turnaround helped the Tigers reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 2020. Circleville limited West Holmes to just 11 second half points.

Edgington finished with 24-points to lead all scorers. Blakeman tallied 9, McConnell 6, Kaylee West had 4, Brooklyn Cramer 2 and Juliana Sims-Ross one.

West Holmes (12-13) had just one player in double figures, Zalina Proper with 13-points.

Circleville’s Josh Blakeman talks strategy with his Lady Tigers before turning them loose to outscore West Holmes 21-6 in the third quarter.

Circleville (22-4) will face Indian Creek (21-5) in the final Friday night at 7pm at Zanesville’s Winfield Memorial Gymnasium. The winner heads to the Final Four. The Redskins came from behind to defeat Buckeye Valley 44-39 in the other semifinal before the Tigers and Knights took the floor.

Litter Media RADIO will have the championship game from Zanesville at 6:50pm Friday.
