Community Donations Support Fayette County Families and Healthy Starts for Children

Article presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling & Plumbing …

WASHINGTON CH – Local organizations are helping support families in Fayette County through recent donations to programs offered by Fayette County Public Health.

Members of the Southern Ohio Sewing Circle in Leesburg donated a large collection of handmade baby blankets for families enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and the Help Me Grow Home Visiting program. The blankets will be shared with families welcoming new babies through these services.

In addition, members of Grace Methodist Church in Washington Court House donated Easter baskets that will be distributed to children served through the WIC program.

“Supporting maternal and infant health is a core part of our work at Fayette County Public Health,” said Missy Smith, Public Information Officer. “Programs like WIC, Help Me Grow, and Family Connects help families get off to a healthy start, and donations like these show how much our community cares about supporting young families.”

The WIC program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and referrals to health and social services for pregnant women, infants, and young children. The Help Me Grow Home Visiting program offers support and education to expectant parents and families with young children to promote healthy growth and development.

Fayette County Public Health also supports families through the Family Connects program, a free program that offers a nurse home visit for families with newborns. During the visit, a registered nurse checks on the health and well-being of both the baby and parents, answers questions about newborn care, and connects families with helpful community resources if needed.

Through grant funding and while supplies last, families participating in Family Connects may also receive backpacks filled with supplies and educational materials to help them care for their newborns.

Improving outcomes for mothers and infants is one of the priority areas identified in the Fayette County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Fayette County Public Health works with community partners to provide education, resources, and support that help families build a strong and healthy foundation for their children.

Fayette County Public Health and community partners are also planning the next Community Baby Shower, which will be held August 6, 2026. The event brings together local organizations to provide education, resources, and helpful items for expectant parents and families with young children. Additional details will be announced in the coming months.
