Pike & Scioto County Families Invited to Strengthen Bonds and Build Brighter Futures Together

Article Presented By Adena Health…

Pike County, OH – In a world that moves faster than ever, finding quality time to connect can be a challenge. To address this, the Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) and Valley View Health Centers (VVHC) are launching a new initiative to support local families in navigating today’s busy culture. Facilitated by Qualified Mental Health Specialists Katelyn Groves and Trevor Sullivan, this new series of family classes is based on the highly acclaimed Strengthening Families Program. This evidence-based initiative, developed by Dr. Karol Kumpfer of the University of Utah, offers parents and their children ages 7 to 17 a unique opportunity to grow closer, improve communication, and thrive as a team.

This program arrives at a time when families are seeking more meaningful engagement. According to the latest data from the Search Institute, young people who experience strong developmental relationships with their parents are significantly more likely to succeed in school and contribute to their communities. In addition, based on the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, family connectedness serves as a powerful protective factor, fostering resilience and long-term emotional well-being in children. Research cited by the National Institutes of Health further indicates that families who engage in collaborative skill-building programs see a measurable boost in youth social skills and a more positive home environment.

The Strengthening Families Program is widely recognized for its positive impact on household harmony, with participants often reporting an immediate increase in family unity and cooperation. This program focuses on the whole family unit. This approach ensures that both parents and children feel heard, valued, and supported, moving away from the divided structures of the past.

The classes offer a supportive space for parents to share experiences while children learn confidence and emotional management through an interactive, engaging, and deeply rewarding curriculum. Families are encouraged to sign up early to secure their spot in this uplifting community experience.
