The United Way of Ross County is partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the Chillicothe Post Office for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, scheduled for Saturday, May 9.
The event marks the 32nd year of the national food drive, which began in 1993 and has grown into the largest one‑day food collection effort in the United States. Over its three‑decade history, the campaign has gathered well over 1.94 billion pounds of food nationwide.

Letter carriers collect non‑perishable food donations left beside mailboxes and deliver them to local food pantries. According to United Way of Ross County, all food collected within Ross County will remain in the county and be distributed directly to residents in need.
Leigh-Ann Wheeler leads the local NALC efforts. The United Way team and Leigh-Ann have been preparing for the drive, which comes at a time when many food pantries experience seasonal shortages. Organizers note that spring collections are especially important as food supplies often decline after the winter holidays and before summer, when school meal programs are less accessible for children.
Residents wishing to participate can place shelf-stable, non-perishable food items in a sturdy bag next to their mailbox for pickup on May 9. Letter carriers or volunteers will pick up the donations throughout the day.
