Scioto Valley REALTORS® Grant Supports Ross County Revolutionary War Veterans Memorial Project

Article presented by Hometown-Motors, Inc.

Chillicothe, OH — May 15,  2026 — Scioto Valley REALTORS®(SVR) announced it has received a $7,500 Placemaking Grant to support the Ross County Revolutionary War Veterans Memorial  in Chillicothe, helping transform public space within  The Veterans Memorial Park on Yoctangee Blvd.  into a meaningful community destination that honors local history while creating a welcoming place for reflection and gathering.

The local grant award is made possible through funding support provided to Scioto Valley REALTORS® by the National Association of REALTORS® as part of its Community Development Advocacy program, which empowers REALTOR® associations to strengthen their communities through effective advocacy, partnerships, and on-the-ground initiatives.

Through this initiative, Scioto Valley REALTORS® will support the installation of a 7-foot granite monument honoring 297 Revolutionary War veterans laid to rest in Ross County, along with landscaping improvements and the development of a commemorative “Never Forget Garden” surrounding the historic Veterans Memorial Park. The project builds on ongoing volunteer efforts that have already restored and marked more than 150 Revolutionary War veterans’ gravesites, This monument will join existing ones commemorating veterans from  many wars as a place of remembrance, education, and civic pride.

On a Special Edition of Litter Media LIVE last December, Terressa Reep with the Nathaniel Massie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution talked about the proposed monument.

“We were looking around at the monuments that are in Veterans Park and the Dough Boy monument in Bicentennial Park” said Reep, “and we thought ‘There’s nothing here to the American Revolution’.”

The inspiration for monument was encouraged by a former DAR member, the late Connie Meyer.  “We had dealt with Harding Memorial in Greenfield on a couple of other projects. They are wonderful patriotic people. Connie and I were looking at this monument, seven-foot tall, granite. That’s what we need!” At the time of the broadcast, the projected date for revealing the monument was Labor Day of 2026. But in the days since, that’s been moved up to July 4th.

In addition to funding support, local REALTORS® will participate through volunteer engagement, community outreach, and promotion of the project, reinforcing their role as trusted community partners committed to place-based investment and neighborhood vitality. Project partners include America 250 Ross County, which is leading the initiative; the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), providing historical expertise and volunteer coordination; the City of Chillicothe, which has approved the monument location and will provide long-term maintenance; The Veterans Commission, overseers of the memorials;  local donors and volunteers contributing matching funds and support.

“Projects like this demonstrate how REALTORS® invest in the communities we serve beyond real estate transactions,” said Sandra Green, REALTOR®. “By partnering with local organizations and honoring our shared history, we are helping create spaces that bring people together and strengthen community identity for generations to come.”

Placemaking focuses on creating people-centered public spaces that strengthen neighborhoods by fostering connection, collaboration, and civic pride. By leveraging this grant, Scioto Valley REALTORS® is helping turn a local vision into a destination where residents, families, students, and visitors can gather, learn, and reflect.

“This project not only preserves an important part of Ross County’s history but also creates a space that will serve the community for years to come, said Bud Fausnaugh, President of SVR.”

Projects like the Ross County Revolutionary War Veterans Memorial reflect REALTORS®’ commitment to building better communities beyond the transaction—using local expertise, partnerships, and advocacy to enhance quality of life and support vibrant, resilient neighborhoods.
