Ross County Historical Society Announces Summer Workshop Series Featuring Art, Archaeology, and Heritage Skills

Chillicothe, OH — This summer, the Ross County Historical Society is inviting the community to explore
creativity, history, and hands-on learning through a new series of engaging workshops led by talented
local artists and educators.

The upcoming programs offer participants the opportunity to develop artistic skills, connect with regional
heritage traditions, and experience history in a creative and accessible way. All workshops include
materials, with discounts available for museum members.

Archaeological Illustration Workshops
Led by local artist Donna Walker, these workshops introduce participants to the fundamentals of
archaeological illustration, teaching techniques for creating detailed sketches that capture the depth and
character of historic artifacts. Sessions run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.,
– May 30 — Drawing Stone Tools
– June 27 — Drawing Historical Objects
Cost is $40 for museum members and $50 for non-members.

Sketch-n-Sip
Participants can enjoy a relaxed evening of drawing, conversation, and inspiration during the museum’s
Sketch-n-Sip series with Donna Walker. These programs combine beginner-friendly sketching instruction
with themed seasonal subjects, along with snacks and an adult beverage. Workshops run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
– June 11 — Wildflowers
– July 16 — Summer Shells
Cost is $25 for museum members and $35 for non-members.

Hands-on History: Historical Knitting
On July 18, local fiber artist Sara Dorsten will lead a special heritage craft workshop focused on historical
knitting techniques. Sponsored by Rural Action, the program will explore how to read historic knitting
patterns while providing hands-on instruction for participants of all skill levels. The workshop runs from
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Cost is $20 for museum members and $30 for non-members.

Advance registration is encouraged, as space may be limited for each workshop.
