Unioto Rallies To Win Regional Soccer Semi
Presented By Atomic Speedway
The Unioto Shermans will play for a boys soccer regional championship for the first time in 17 years, after rallying from a two goal deficit to beat Saint Clairsville 3-2 Wednesday at Cambridge High School.
Unioto trailed 1-0 at halftime, Saint Clairsville scored early in the second half for a 2-0 lead.
That’s when the Shermans’ offense came to life, getting pressure on the Red Devils side of the field and leading Unioto’s Lucas Hanes to score three second half goals, one on a penalty kick, for the eventual winning score of 3-2.
Unioto now advances to play Athens on Saturday, November 6th for a trip to the State Final Four. The Bulldogs advanced with a 5-3 win over Dover. The Shermans blanked Athens 6-0 earlier in the season.
The OHSAA originally slated the championship match to be played at West Muskingum High School, starting at 11am, but has since been moved to Zane Trace High School at 12pm, Saturday.
